Summer Connections Day Camp

Summer Connections is an 8 week summer day camp serving teens and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25 who have social, emotional, and/or developmental needs.

The purpose of Summer Connections is to provide students who have identified disabilities a safe, secure, and comfortable environment to develop and/or strengthen self-efficacy skills while participating in real-life learning experiences throughout the summer.

It is located in Royston at the Wee Care facility but serves surrounding counties. Avita Family Support will cover the cost of camp. Registration must be completed in order to attend. Limited spaces available!

As summer comes to an end and the school year begins, please say a prayer for our campers and the staff who work with them. Also, please pray that our campers who have aged out of high school can easily make the transition to "the real world" and get the support they need to be successful citizens.

Friday Funday! Thank you to Ms. Melinda and Ms. Audrey for speaking to the campers today. They learned a lot about their teeth and agriculture. In art, the campers took home their wonderfully made masks, and thanks to generous donations, the campers also got to enjoy watermelon after swimming!

The girls enjoyed their workday at Pizza Hut on Friday. I would love to say the girls' favorite part was folding boxes, but it was the free pizza that followed their hard work!!

Even with only three days of camp this week, we still managed to pack in a lot of fun! Extra special thank you to Fire Chief Matt Parham and the other volunteer firefighters who made our Friday extra fun!!

How is it even possible to pack this much fun into one day? Our campers had a great time at the movie theater this morning and were on their very best behavior! This afternoon, the campers were busy playing at the park, swimming, and working at Pizza Hut. EVERYONE should sleep well tonight!

Today was filled with more fun! Deputy Harold Jordan brought his K9, and the campers got to see how she helps Deputy Jordan find hidden things. The campers also got to check out Deputy Jordan's patrol vehicle up close and personal.

Busy day at camp today! Our campers had fun this morning in classes, helped with Bingo and games at the nursing home, volunteered at the animal shelter, worked at Pizza Hut folding boxes, and went swimming!

Today's adventure... Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail in Athens. All of the campers had a great time, and we still made it back in time for lunch and swimming!

While the girls were performing at the nursing home, the guys were on a "pharmacy" scavenger hunt! By the end of the summer, these campers will be able to take care of all your shopping needs... just hand over your money! 😄

Music class was the place to be today! The campers learned to sing and clap the Kit Kat song. Although... the girls did have fun swimming, and the boys had fun playing basketball at the gym, too! Let's not forget about Legos and Art class!

Summer Connections is in full swing, and we're having a blast! We've made crafts, painted, sang, played instruments, learned how to find items in a sale's paper, made a grocery list, practiced recognizing signs in the community, followed a recipe to make pb&j sandwiches, enjoyed a karaoke party, gone fishing, volunteered at the animal shelter and MORE!!
