June 24 marks the 4th anniversary of the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey - eliminating the constitutional right to abortion that had existed for almost 50 years.

With abortion bans across the country and threats to reproductive health care at the federal level, it has never been more important to strengthen state policies.

Last week, Tovah (formerly NCJW/Essex) members had a great day advocating for reproductive health policies in Trenton with Thrive NJ, a statewide coalition working collectively to promote sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice through policy change and advocacy.

This is just one of the things we do to make sure New Jersey protects reproductive freedom and increases access and quality health care.

Still taking in all the memories made at Tovah's first Installation & Awards Luncheon yesterday. It was an amazing afternoon in an elegant setting where we marked both the annual start of a new year and the ambitious, bright and exciting future of Tovah.

Congratulations to our amazing new president, Lauren Tabak Fass, and our three remarkable award winners: Miriam Korn Haimes, Robin Kollin and Marjie Zucker. Massive thanks to our outgoing president Andrea Rakitta Mintz and the members of our Board of Directors.

As Lauren said as she takes on this role, "This is a group of women who believe strongly that community is not something we inherit, it is something we build together. Now, we have the privilege and responsibility of building the next chapter."

Tomorrow, June 5, is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This weekend and throughout the month of June, Americans will raise awareness about gun violence, honor the lives lost, and explore the human hardship endured due to gun violence.

Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children in the United States. In New Jersey, gun safety laws passed over the last few years have made us the fourth-safest state in the country. Still, much more can be done.
