Yesterday afternoon at 1:12 p.m., we were requested by EMS to establish a landing zone for an incoming medical helicopter. Crews secured the landing zone, and once the helicopter arrived, the patient was loaded and flown to the hospital for further treatment. This is one of the many types of calls we answer on a daily basis. Great work by everyone involved!

Yesterday morning at approximately 11:15 a.m., Rose Hill Fire Department was dispatched alongside the North Carolina Forest Service to a woods fire in the area of Earl Davis Road. While responding, crews observed a large column of smoke and requested Teachey Fire Department for additional manpower. Upon arrival, crews began fire attack and quickly determined the fire was spreading rapidly. Additional departments were requested to assist with fire suppression and provide structural protection for nearby homes. Several residents were evacuated during the incident due to the fire's proximity but were later able to return home safely. Firefighters worked throughout the day, with much-needed rainfall helping crews gain control of the fire late in the afternoon. Crews cleared the scene just before nightfall, and command was turned over to the Duplin County Fire Marshal's Office. The North Carolina Forestry Service will continue to monitor throughout the next few days.

We would like to thank all of the departments, agencies, and organizations that assisted during this large-scale incident, as well as everyone who made donations or supported crews throughout the day.

Update: Improved Conditions Allow Residents to Return Home as Firefighters Continue Wildfire Operations

Duplin County, NC - A passing thunderstorm has provided much-needed rainfall over the wildfire burning in the area of Pope Road, Corinth Church Road, and Earl Davis Road, significantly assisting firefighters in slowing the fire's progression.
While the rainfall has improved conditions, the wildfire is not yet considered fully contained. Personnel with the North Carolina Forest Service will remain on scene throughout the night and coming days to strengthen containment lines, extinguish remaining hot spots, and monitor the area for any flare-ups as weather conditions continue to change.
Based on the improved fire conditions, residents who were previously evacuated may now return to their homes. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue monitoring official updates, as changing weather conditions could influence fire behavior. Anyone returning home should remain aware of emergency personnel working in the area and be prepared to follow any additional instructions should conditions change.
Duplin County Public Safety extends its sincere appreciation to the firefighters, EMS personnel, telecommunicators, North Carolina Forest Service personnel, law enforcement officers, and other partner agencies whose coordinated efforts helped protect lives and property throughout this incident. We also thank the affected residents for their patience, cooperation, and support during the evacuation.
Emergency officials will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide additional updates as necessary.
