Yesterday was International Overdose Awareness Day, a day dedicated to remembering those we have lost to overdose, supporting those affected by substance use, and recognizing the people working every day to make recovery possible.

So today, we want to share a little more about how The Branches Outreach represented the meaning behind Overdose Awareness Day. Last Wednesday, The Branches Outreach was honored to be recognized by Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional CARES, the National Center for Advocacy and Recovery for Behavioral Health (NCAAR), and the Cape May County Board of County Commissioners at the Cape May County Overdose Awareness event.

This photo represents the wonderful organizations that provide free Narcan, wellness promotion, recovery, and harm reduction.

Our Philosophy (worth the long read) :

You cannot save someone. But you can refuse to give up on them.
That philosophy is at the heart of the work being done at The Branches.

We have the privilege of walking alongside people during some of the hardest moments of their lives...whether it's people struggling with substance use, people beginning recovery, people returning to recovery, or people simply trying to make it through another day.

The Branches believes that recovery is possible, every life has value, and no one should be defined by the hardest chapter of their story.

The role of an organization like The Branches is not to determine when someone is ready to change or dictate what their journey should look like. It is to meet people where they are, without judgment, and provide dignity, respect, compassion, and a door that remains open.

Sometimes that means connecting someone with treatment.
Sometimes it means recovery support or sober living.
Sometimes it means a meal, a shower, an identification card, transportation, a conversation, or simply having someone there to say:

“We’re still here when you’re ready.”

Overdose Awareness events like this serve as an important reminder of the lives lost, the families and friends who continue to carry those losses, and the incredible courage of the people who are still here.

The Branches Outreach is deeply grateful to its staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who continue to show up for people throughout Cape May County.

The organization is also grateful to the individuals who have trusted The Branches enough to allow its team into some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Today and everyday, we remember those who did not get the chance to see recovery.

And for every person who is still here, The Branches will continue to stand firmly behind a message that guides this work every day:

Recovery is possible.

A great big “Thank You” from Branches Food Pantry for some very special donations….
Eckhert Farm in Tabernacle for the beautiful fresh produce
Stone Circle Farm also for beautiful fresh produce
Sonny, we are unsure of your last name, but want to thank you for your very big donation of food items
We are so grateful for donations such as these during such difficult times for so many. To have fresh produce is a bonus, always. Keeping our shelves stocked is a challenge and so any and all donations of food items helps us keep pace with the need!

As we get ready for an incredible day of music, community, and giving back, we want to take a moment to recognize the businesses who helped make it all possible.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our sponsors:

⭐ Joseph D. McCann Builders
⭐ J. Byrne Insurance
⭐ Bayfront Emergency Physician / Shore Medical Center
⭐ Gregory T’s Signarama of Cape May County

Your sponsorship helps us create an event where people can come together, enjoy great music, and—most importantly—help us continue serving our neighbors who need a little extra support.

Thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our work, and showing up for the community.

Stay tuned because we will be giving our incredible musicians their own well-deserved shoutout next!

It’s amazing how an act of kindness gives rise to another act of kindness…St. Barnabas Church in the Villas had their big hoagie sale yesterday. It was a huge success thanks to all of the good folks who purchased hoagies. There were some left over fixings that today were given to Branches and will be enjoyed by our guests tomorrow. It all started with the generosity of Gaiss Market and Tony’s Produce, both in the Villas, who donated meat and cheese and produce! So, from Gaiss Market and Tony’s Produce to St. Barnabas to The Branches, we are witness to how kindness is contagious and we are so grateful that it is 🥰.

We appreciate the opportunity our Executive Director Alana Maldonado had to speak with the NJ4S Youth Camp yesterday. We also very much appreciate the amazing bags we received, which are full of all kinds of great snacks and personal care items. Many thanks to all who created these bags and for the thought that went into their creation. Our guests are going to love them.

When young people learn about community, they learn how to make a difference. This morning, our Executive Director, Alana, had the opportunity to speak with the youth participating in the NJ4S Youth Camp.

And these young people were engaged! Their questions, curiosity, and willingness to participate made for such a meaningful conversation.

We believe it is important for people of all ages to know that organizations like The Branches exist right here in their community. When someone is struggling, they shouldn't have to wonder where they can turn. There are people and organizations ready to help, and knowing where those resources are can make all the difference

Building stronger communities starts with knowing how we can help one another.

Thank you Atlantic Cape Community College - Cape May Campus for hosting the campers!

We are so grateful for all of the beautiful produce we received from That Farm Market today. They are closing for the season and were kind enough to think of Branches. We appreciate it when local businesses close for the season and make the choice to donate as opposed to disposing of food that will feed lots of hungry folks. Many thanks!
