Compassion For Canines is a foster based rescue organization dedicated to aiding homeless dogs in South Eastern Virginia, and North Easter North Carolina. All of our dogs are placed in fosters homes, and will be available to meet upon request.

Meet Mookie. This 4-year-old English Bulldog is looking for a family who appreciates the finer things in life: comfy beds, snacks, short strolls, and absolutely no unnecessary cardio. 😂❤️

She is a sweet, low-energy girl who is good with other dogs and kids and would fit beautifully into a family looking for an easygoing companion. She’s much more interested in hanging out with her people than training for a marathon — and frankly, she thinks that sounds exhausting anyway.

We would love to see her with a family who has English Bulldog experience or a good understanding of the breed. Bulldogs are wonderful dogs, but they can come with their fair share of breed-typical medical needs, including skin, allergy, airway, eye, and orthopedic concerns. Her future family should be prepared for the additional care and potential expenses that can come along with loving one of these adorable little potatoes. 🥔💕

If your idea of the perfect dog is a sweet, squishy, low-key companion who would rather supervise your activities than actually participate in anything too strenuous, this girl may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for. 🐾❤️

Hampton Roads foster family needed for a sweet, deserving fella - an 8 year old Miniature Pinscher - who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Unfortunately his family is unable to provide him the care he needs to continue living his best life - so we would like to step in and make sure he gets the best chance possible.

The only special care he will need is a subcutaneous insulin injection twice daily. We will provide the medication, syringes, and training to administer his medication.

Hampton Roads foster needed for the most handsome 1.5yr old golden boy!

He was surrendered to the shelter because his owners were moving, he tested well with other dogs in the shelter, and we believe he would be fine with dog savvy children.

💙 Meet Blue! 💙
Blue is a 106-pound Doberman with a whole lot of love, personality, and goofy energy—and he’s looking for a home that better matches the active, involved lifestyle he thrives on.
Blue has been loved his entire life and hasn’t done anything wrong. His current home has simply become much quieter, and his 16-year-old, 8-pound canine sibling isn’t exactly interested in wrestling with a 106-pound Doberman. 😂 His family recognizes that Blue would be happier with a little more action.
Blue is house trained, well mannered, knows his basic commands, and is incredibly affectionate. He loves people, activity, attention, and being included in whatever his family is doing. We think his dream home would have kids, another playful dog, and plenty of everyday activity.
He’s approaching his senior years, although Blue strongly disagrees with that assessment. 😂 He still loves to play, explore, and exercise, but needs a family who can balance his enthusiasm with appropriate rest.
Blue is curious about cats but has never shown aggression toward them. He also has hypothyroidism that is well managed with inexpensive twice-daily medication and supplements for his skin and coat.
Ultimately, we’re looking for a family who wants a big, goofy, affectionate Doberman to truly be part of the family. Blue wants to be wherever his people are—preferably as close to them as physically possible. 💙
His placement will be carefully considered because this big guy deserves to get his next chapter exactly right.

🐾 Meet Kingston! 🐾

Kingston is a 4-year-old liver German Shorthaired Pointer who is handsome, happy, and operating with approximately 47 tabs open at all times. 😂⚡

In true GSP fashion, Kingston has ENERGY. He’s looking for an active family who wants a dog to actually do things with — walks, hikes, adventures, playing in the yard, and whatever else helps keep those long legs and busy brain occupied.

Kingston is good with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine buddy to play with and help burn off some of that Pointer fuel. 🐶💨

At 4 years old, he’s well beyond the tiny puppy stage, but absolutely nowhere near ready to retire to a life of leisurely naps and judging the neighbors through the window. Kingston wants to be involved, included, and preferably moving.

If you’ve been looking for an active, social, adventure-ready best friend — and you understand that a tired GSP is a happy GSP — Kingston might be your guy! ❤️🐾

🐾💜 Come Walk With C4C — October 10th! 💜🐾

We’d love to have our C4C family join us for the Peninsula Out of the Darkness Walk at Buckroe on October 10th!

This event is open to everyone — supporters, volunteers, fosters, adopters, C4C alumni families, and future C4C family members alike. Whether you’ve been with us for years or you’re just getting to know us, we’d love to have you there.

🐾 C4C will have a tent set up with some of our adoptable dogs, so stop by, say hello, meet a few pups looking for their forever homes, and spend the morning with us!

Come out, bring your dogs, and walk with us for a good cause. 💜 The Out of the Darkness Walk supports su***de prevention and mental health awareness — a cause that is incredibly important to us.

🐾 Meet Benjamin! 🐾

Benjamin is a 1–3-year-old male Doodle with a big fluffy body, a goofy personality, and a whole lot of love to give. ❤️

Benjamin loves other dogs and has become quite the professional wrestler with his foster brothers. 🤼🐶 If there’s another dog around who wants to play, Benjamin is GAME — think less “quietly coexist on the couch” and more “WWE in the living room.” 😂 But another dog is absolutely not a requirement for him. He would be just as happy soaking up all the attention as a solo pup.

One of the best things about Benjamin is that he really matches the energy of his environment. Put him in a playful, active household and he’s ready to party. Put him in a quieter home and he’s perfectly capable of settling in and matching that calmer pace. He’s a pretty adaptable guy!

When it comes to people, Benjamin has yet to meet a woman he doesn’t immediately consider his new best friend. 😂❤️ With men, he can be a little more apprehensive at first and may need some extra time to decide they’re safe. There is no aggression — he’s simply cautious with unfamiliar men. Give him a little patience, don’t force the interaction, and let him discover that the new guy is the bearer of tasty treats, and he warms up beautifully. 🦴

Benjamin came into the shelter severely matted, so his future family does need to understand that his beautiful Doodle coat requires commitment. He’ll need regular professional grooming along with consistent brushing and coat maintenance at home to keep him comfortable and prevent painful matting from happening again. ✂️🛁

At 1–3 years old, Benjamin is young, social, goofy, affectionate, and just an all-around fun dog. He can wrestle with the best of them, settle down when the house settles down, live happily with another dog or fly solo — he’s really just looking for a family to call his own.

Whether your house is full of four-legged wrestling partners or Benjamin gets to be your one-and-only, we think this fluffy goofball will fit right in. ❤️🐾

**Foster found!**

🚨 HAMPTON ROADS FOSTER-TO-ADOPT NEEDED! 🚨

This 4-month-old German Shepherd boy was hit by a car and is still recovering from his injuries. He’s got a little hitch in his walk and, quite frankly, looks like he was put together with spare parts that don’t quite fit. 😂❤️ But we love every wonky inch of him.

Personality-wise? Solid citizen. He loves other dogs, is crate trained, happy, social, and absolutely loves people.

We would really love to find him a foster-to-adopt home—somewhere he can finish healing while getting to know the family that may ultimately become his forever.

If you’re in Hampton Roads and have room for one slightly crooked, ridiculously lovable German Shepherd puppy, please reach out! 🐾❤️
