AMPLIFi is honored to provide a look into the lives of refugees and share their stories of hard work and bravery through immensely challenging situations. Here is another glimpse of the refugee families in Chad who leave camp Djabal to rent land and make a little money through farming. This past rainy season, iACT’s AMPLIFi team travelled there to hear their stories.

During the rainy season in Chad (June to August), many refugee families leave the refugee camps seeking financial opportunities through farming. While refugees are not currently able to own land, they can rent parcels from local residents, hoping to bring in a small amount of money for their families.

This past rainy season, iACT’s AMPLIFi team traveled to a farm outside refugee camp Djabal in eastern Chad to hear their stories and learn about the role of farming for refugee communities.

This summer, iACT’s AMPLIFi team participated in a week-long journalism training with Samira Moudjahid of Tchad24. They learned everything from story planning to basic editing of videos to security and safety around reporting in conflict conditions. With their trainer, they were able to go out into the community and practice their new skills together, capturing stories of the refugee experience in eastern Chad.

Investing in training is a key aspect of iACT’s powershift, resourcing conflict-affected men and women to gain the expertise needed to stand in their own power and step into leadership roles.

We know it can be easy to skim past another "World _____ Day" post and not think anything of it. We hope for World Humanitarian Day, you'll take a moment with us to honor its significance, because it represents real people giving so much of themselves. Humanitarian workers serve because they choose to hope when others think hope is lost. They serve to bring dignity and power back to oppressed people.

Today, we want to highlight one amazing iACT staff member to give you a glimpse of the real impact she is making every day:

Christelle is one of the female coaches at the RUSA program in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR). She is both a coach and a leader. In partnership with RUSA Bangui Program Coordinator, they have expanded the “She Should Play” initiative to reach over 200 girls across multiple communities. By introducing access to essential menstrual hygiene products, Christelle has helped increase and sustain girls’ participation in sports. The challenges in CAR remain, but Christelle’s leadership and the mentorship she provides are helping to break down barriers and foster more opportunities for youth and gender equity in Bangui, and hopefully beyond.

International Youth Day recognizes that while youth around the world may have very different life experiences, they have similar aspirations. "Across countries and communities, young people seek dignity, opportunity, meaningful participation, decent work, quality education, and a sustainable future." The iACT community works towards this goal every day for youth whose lives are affected by war and conflict.

Today, we want to highlight just one story of progress: equal opportunity for girls in sport through our Bangui United Soccer Academy in the Central African Republic.

In Bangui, the Yakite neighborhood's local school was vandalized and shut down. But thanks to inclusive political dialogue, classes have finally resumed. This progress also extends to the soccer pitch. Due to local cultural norms in this community, many parents generally do not want their daughters participating in sports, particularly football.

The RUSA team in Bangui, working in collaboration with the Central African Football Federation (FCF) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and their dedicated awareness campaigns, are breaking down these barriers. Today, we see more and more parents allowing their daughters to join the RUSA program and play! These girls are given dignity, equal opportunity, and freedom to have fun while playing!
