As a kid, San Bernardino County District Attorney Investigator Rodney Tamparong dreamed of becoming a police officer. After undergoing multiple hip surgeries, a doctor told him he might never be able to run, and that his dream might not be possible.

Today, 50 children started the school year with confidence at SEBA Charities’ Back to School Shop with a Cop event.

Thanks to the generous support of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, 25 tribal youth and 25 children from the Morongo community each received a $200 Walmart shopping spree, alongside law enforcement officers who helped make the day unforgettable.

Thank you to everyone who made this special event possible. We wish all of our students a safe, successful school year!

While responding to a call for service, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy A. Alvarado learned that a young boy’s birthday was coming up. She also learned he was a huge Spider-Man fan whose biggest birthday wish was a bicycle.

Rather than letting that moment pass, Deputy Alvarado reached out to SEBA. Through our Everyday Heroes Program, we were able to provide the young boy with a brand-new bicycle and Spider-Man helmet, making his birthday wish come true.

“The reason I joined law enforcement was to give back to the community,” Alvarado said. “I grew up without having much, and now being in a position where I can help my community, it feels really good to be able to do that for the people that I serve.”

The SEBA Everyday Heroes Program exists to support moments just like this—when our members go beyond the badge to make a lasting difference in the communities they serve.
