Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

We had another birthday to celebrate on Tuesday and had a blast making our own kites 🪁

On Thursday, Virginia came back for more science! I missed some of the action as I was in a meeting about the after-school program, but the kids caught me up to speed! They tested how eggs sank in regular water, but floated in salt water due to increased density 🤯 They also did a surface tension experiment with milk, food coloring, and qtips dipped in dish soap. When the dish soap touched the food coloring suspended in the milk, the colors swirled and caused a mesmerizingly beautiful effect!

This past week we celebrated a birthday, built our own personal battery powered fans to beat the heat, and learned just how to handle an emergency situation.

Huge thanks to firefighter Doug and firefighter Tsunami (Sue Lani) for sharing their knowledge and letting our kids know that, no matter how small they are, they can still be a BIG help during an emergency!

We couldn't have asked for lovelier weather for our outdoor picnic this week! ❤️

Our kids dove into some fantastic, hands-on projects on Tuesday. They practiced patience and fine motor skills creating fuse bead art, explored engineering by building popsicle stick and rubber band catapults, and unleashed their imaginations making magic water gel pets.

We were also delighted to welcome Denise back to our program. She taught the kids advanced shading techniques to bring their drawings to life, resulting in beautiful works of art. Just in time to share with the very special moms in our lives!

Here is a look at what the kids got up to this week:

On Tuesday Virginia showed us that science is always better when it's delicious (and a little messy). The kids used whipped cream and graham crackers to create a model of magma and tectonic plates to see how the earth moves. The "dancing corn" experiment was certainly explosive (see video in comments)!

On Thursday we had several stations for the kids to choose from. Here were the options:

*Get hands-on with nature by dissecting an owl pellet.

*Fold and test paper airplanes.

*Tap into the arts with chalk pastels.

*Build battery-powered machines or tackle complex 3d wooden puzzles.

It is always a joy to see these kids learning, creating, and growing together!

Another fantastic week for the books! 📚

Tuesday had something for everyone, from the crafters to the builders! The kids chose from building battery-powered cars, making bracelets, or getting crafty with air-dry clay. 🏎️🎨

Thursday was a treat! 🍬 The kids put their math and following-directions skills to the test—measuring and mixing to turn their gummy creations into Instagram-worthy mini foods. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Wonderful to see everyone after a fun spring break! They had so much to tell us about how great it was.

We dabbled in some gardening on Tuesday; planting our own sunflowers, green onions, and setting up some experiments with different vegetables to see how they grow over the next few weeks!

On Thursday the kids painted some beautiful plaster flowers and added finishing touches to the bird houses that they started before the break.

A huge thank you to La Presa Mexican Restaurant - Airway Heights for making our recent family event so special. When we reached out for help feeding our kids and families, they didn’t just provide a meal—they provided connection, joy, and a sense of belonging for our entire CCAS family.

By generously working within our non-profit budget, La Presa ensured that more of our critical funds could be diverted back into the program, helping our kids continue to learn and thrive.

Seeing our families happy and connected over a plate of authentic, delicious food was a priceless moment indeed. We are so grateful for local restaurants like La Presa that are passionate about the experience that their food provides, and make our community an even better place to live in.

If you're looking for great food and even better people, please go pay them a visit!!

Exciting news!!

We were recently approved for a book donation from the amazing organization Kids Need To Read, but we never expected this level of generosity. We opened our delivery to find 62 brand-new books for our kids!

From horses and Minecraft, to how-to-draw guides and graphic novels that build confidence, there is something for every single one of our readers. Seeing the kids' faces light up as they discovered books specially chosen just for them was a huge highlight of an already incredible Tuesday!

A huge thank you to Kids Need to Read for investing in Reardan's youth and helping us grow our program library. Our 1st–6th graders are officially ready to read!

The CCAS crew had an absolutely wonderful time exploring the Inland Northwest Rail Museum yesterday!

We want to extend a massive thank you to:

Our Incredible Tour Guide: Your knowledge and insight into these historical pieces truly brought the past to life!

The Museum Staff: Thank you for providing such a seamless and welcoming experience for our group.

Our Amazing Volunteers: This trip wouldn't have been possible without you.

The Kids: Thank you for spending your Saturday with us and for keeping our guide on his toes with such thoughtful, curious questions!

To wrap up a perfect Saturday, we made it back to the church with enough time for a hilarious round of Telestrations.

Check out some of our favorite moments below! (Be sure to peek at the comments for videos of the action!)
