Troop 702, Reading, MA The home of Boy Scout Troop 702, Reading, MA. Be prepared. In addition to Webelos Woods, Troop 702 uses the Reading Town Forest for our Annual Turkey Roast.

One of only 14 troops nationwide to be in continuous operation for over 100 years, Troop 702 was organized on May 14, 1915 with Alfred Townsend and Guy Rich, Scout Masters. The officers elected were as follows: Leader of the Beaver Patrol – Herbert Lee, Assistant lrving McCaughey; Leader of the Fox Patrol – George Chellis, Assistant Rover Ballou; Leader of the Eagle Patrol — Robert Granfleld, Assi

stant Raymond McCaughey; Leader of the Rattlesnake Patrol — Iver Johnson, Assistant Shaffer Smith. Our first meeting was held on May 28, 1915 at the Old South Methodist Church, and we've been meeting there for over 100 years. Today Troop 702 Scouts are still very much involved in the Reading Town Forest as they were at the time the original trees were planted. Some Troop 702 Scouts were present at the Council Ring the day the Town Forest was dedicated on April 26, 1930. Troop 702 has graduated over 130 Eagle Scouts over the past 100+ years, the most of any other troop in the area.
