This week our spotlight is shining on Miss Liz!

If her face looks familiar it could be you recognize her as the nice lady who delivered your mail. She worked as a letter carrier in Raymore for 22 years before retiring.

Liz spends most of her time overseeing our pantry. She organizes, dates and rotates food as it comes in, assuring that our clients are always getting fresh items. A special project that Liz is involved in is putting together meal kits. It includes the recipe and all the ingredients needed to make a complete meal. She is always looking for ways to help the families we serve.

When Liz isn’t working in the food room, she is keeping our jewelry selection stocked. She sorts and puts out different pieces every week so there is always something new to choose!

I asked Liz why does she like to volunteer. She said that she has always lived in the area and wanted to give back to the community in a big way.

Liz, you are giving back in many ways and each one is appreciated! Your caring nature and dedication is evident in all you do! Thank you!

This week we are focusing our spotlight on Mr. Geral!

Geral is one in a million and has a great eye for organization and detail! He takes on the tedious task of helping to write expiration dates on all nonperishable foods that come in. He also organizes our shelves where paper goods and personal hygiene items are stored. It makes it more convenient to keep track of our stock and find things easily.

In 1983 Geral started his own transporting consulting firm. He traveled all over the United States meeting with clients. In 2015 he retired.

One of the things that Geral holds especially dear is his family. He is married and has ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren!

Although Geral is retired, he likes to keep busy. He has held volunteer positions with hospitals and the police service.

When asked why he wanted to volunteer at Eagles Community Outreach, he shared that he has always loved the eagle, in fact he collects eagles, and that is one thing that attracted him to us. He also enjoys helping people.

Geral, we are so glad that you are a part of our team. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!

Our Volunteer Spotlight this week is shining brightly on Miss Sandy!

Sandy has been volunteering with us for quite sometime. She has witnessed our growth and has been with us during three moves!

Whether Sandy is helping at the desk, sorting clothes or thinking of ways to keep us better organized, you will always find that can do attitude!

Sandy retired after 32 years from House of Lloyd where she worked in management. However, her strong work ethic and people skills she used while working, continue to shine in all that she does at the Center!

When asked why she volunteers, she said that she enjoys helping the community. She paused for a moment and added that volunteering helps her as much as it helps others.

Sandy, you are a valuable part of what we do. Your commitment to our organization continues to inspire us!

This week our Volunteer Spotlight is focused on Miss Wanda!

Wanda has such a nurturing spirit! She devoted 20 years to helping other people plan, plant and maintain their gardens. The rewards she reaped from the knowledge she shared was overflowing!

She is also quite the seamstress! Wanda spent 12 years doing customized drapes. What a valuable skill!

Now, she shares her talent with us by making our wonderful t-shirt bags! She makes these from t-shirts that we are unable to use because of a stain or company logo. These bags are strong and hold a lot! The best part is they can be washed and reused and our clients absolutely love them to carry their clothing and items home.

Although Wanda is not at the Center daily, she is an integral part of the services we provide. Her passion for loving and helping others is far reaching and her children and grandchildren are at the top of the list!

When asked why she volunteers, she said that she needed a worthwhile project that she could do at home. With a big smile, Wanda quickly added that she enjoys making the bags for everyone that comes to the Center and loves the opportunity to give back. Thank you, Wanda, for all you do!
