Our mission is to provide every animal with a safe, loving environment until they find a forever home. We are a 501(c)(3) non profit animal rescue in San Diego, California, dedicated to preventing animals from being euthanized for unnecessary reasons and/or sold for slaughter. Over 4,000.000 animals are put down in California alone every year, and our goal is to change that number! Our Rescue/ San

ctuary rescues horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, mini donkeys, mules, turkeys, ducks, tortoises, dogs, cats and chickens. Tax-deductible donations of any value are greatly appreciated in supporting our mission. Venmo

So..... The way all this started is I spent my childhood in South Africa, and have always been very passionate when it comes to animals. We were always surrounded my all different kinds of animals, and our house was always the one that had random shoe boxes with animals recovering in them. I have never understood how people are able to discard their pets, and also can't fathom destroying animals due to lack of space. I have never found it agreeable that many rescues destroy animals because they do not have the time or space to take care of or foster or adopt out animals that they have in their shelters, so the mission of 2 The Rescue Animal Sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate if necessary, and re home animals that might be euthanized due to lack of space in local shelters and/or sold at slaughter auctions. We hope to never have to refuse or deny any animal a safe loving environment to live in until a forever home can be found.

Lucy, our Animal of the Week, was the last remaining member of her flock after her companions passed away from old age. As highly social animals, chickens thrive in the company of other chickens and can become lonely when left on their own. After losing her flock, Lucy needed companionship and a place where she could once again be part of a family. We were delighted to welcome her to the sanctuary. 🐥

Lucy is a bantam Silkie and a cherished senior girl with the sweetest personality. Although she has only been with us for a few months, she has already captured our hearts. Her gentle nature and quiet presence have made her an important part of our sanctuary family, and it’s hard to imagine the sanctuary without her. ✨

5 fun facts about geese!

1. Geese can control each of their eyes independently.
2. Goose eggs are large, richly flavored eggs that are about two to three times the size of a standard chicken egg.
3. Their beaks have complex touch receptors similar to human fingertips.
4. Unlike many other bird species, geese are highly loyal and typically mate for life.
5. Geese fly in a V-shaped pattern to reduce wind resistance.

Boomer is back home! We believe the main cause of his intestinal blockage was his habit of eating rocks and dirt. To help keep him safe, we installed top-quality stall mats first thing this morning, just in time for his return.

Watching him reunite with his best friend, George the Emu, and his girlfriend, Daisy Mae, was truly heartwarming. Boomer is clearly thrilled to be back where he belongs — and we couldn’t be happier to have him home with us again. 🐴💙🐴

Our beautiful Salome is our Animal of the Week! 🪿

About a year and a half ago, we were contacted by a couple who needed to rehome a goose after a friend passed away. They had promised to care for Salome and her duck companion, but tragedy struck when a predator killed the duck and severely injured Salome. Wanting her to be safe and cared for, they reached out to our sanctuary.

Today, Salome has fully settled in and proudly rules the pond. She has a condition called angel wing — a deformity caused by poor nutrition early in life that is common in waterfowl — but it doesn’t slow her down one bit.

Geese often get a bad reputation for being aggressive, but Salome is gentle, social, and quite the conversationalist. We are so grateful she’s part of our family. 💖

Boomer update: Boomer will likely remain in the hospital until Friday while the veterinary team makes sure his intestines are fully clear before he can safely go home.
One of our incredible volunteers spent the afternoon with him at the hospital today, and it absolutely lifted his spirits. He was so happy to have the company and love!
Keep fighting and healing, sweet boy. We are all rooting for you and can’t wait to see you back home where you belong. ❤️
