Five more plants just joined the QueensWay roster. These shrubs are about to handle a New York winter better than we do, and that's kind of the whole point: everything on this list has to survive real conditions, not just look good in a rendering. Swipe through to meet them. That's 15 of 20 revealed so far, one more carousel and you'll know the whole corridor.

We ran for a park that doesn’t exist yet. 🏃

Sunday’s 5K brought runners from all over Queens, and every one of them crossed the finish line for the same reason: 3.5 miles of abandoned rail line that should be a park.

Hear why they’re in it. Then come run with us next year.

Thank you to everyone who laced up, cheered, and volunteered. You made this one count. 🏅

Five ways to spend October with the QueensWay, from Woodhaven to Kew Gardens to Forest Hills. Lace up for the 5K on the 4th, then swing by our table at Metro Village's Community Day that afternoon. Hike the old rail line on the 10th, join John Surico's Open House New York tour on the 17th or 18th, and bring binoculars for birding on the 24th. All the details are on the graphic. Neighbors in Rego Park, Glendale, Richmond Hill, and Ozone Park, we'd love to see you out there before groundbreaking this fall.

Gothamist just named the QueensWay Walking Tour one of its top 5 picks for Open House New York Weekend. Out of 300 destinations across the city, one of the favorites is a stretch of abandoned railroad in our backyard.

Here's the deal: on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, from 10 AM to noon, Friends of the QueensWay Executive Director John Surico will lead a two-hour walk along about a mile of the old LIRR rail bed through Forest Park. It's family-friendly, and it's one of the last chances to see the corridor as it is before groundbreaking later this year.

Tickets are through Open House New York. Grab a spot at the link in the comments.

"These are the backyards my parents grew up in."

John Surico's mom grew up in City Line. His dad grew up in Ozone Park and still remembers when trains ran on the Rockaway Beach Branch. Now John is our first-ever executive director, and he's helping turn that same abandoned stretch into Queens' first linear park.

Huge thanks to Michael Perlman and This is Forest Hills for the behind-the-scenes look at John and what's coming next. Link in the comments.

Your neighbor Dan lives in Forest Hills, and he's all in on the QueensWay.

In his words, it's going to be "a tremendous asset to connect communities and a tremendous asset for young people." We couldn't have said it better.

This is the first in a series of short videos from the people who actually live along the corridor, from Rego Park and Forest Hills to Glendale, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, and Ozone Park. Groundbreaking is later this year, and we want every neighborhood represented.

Some businesses just don't leave. Aigner Chocolates has been on Metropolitan Ave in Forest Hills since 1930, through nearly a century of Queens history, and now, right as the QueensWay's first phase breaks ground practically around the corner.

This week, the shop marked its countdown to 100 years, and it wasn't just family stopping by. Council Member Lynn Schulman and Assemblymember Andrew Hevesi joined our own Karen Imas and Allison Sesso to celebrate with owner Rachel Kellner.

96 years of one Forest Hills shop staying put. About six weeks until construction starts on the Metropolitan Hub down the street. Two different kinds of milestones, same corner of Queens.

Congratulations, Aigner's — here's to the next 100.

Mark your calendars: Sunday, October 4, we're hitting the pavement for the QueensWay 5K.

It's a free community run or walk (there's a 1-mile option too, if 3.1 isn't your thing) through Forest Park, celebrating the future 47-acre greenway that's about to transform Central Queens. Start line's at Victory Field, gun goes off at 9:10am, and afterward we're keeping it going at a finish-line festival with food, music, and local vendors.

Whether you're chasing a PR or walking it with your dog and your coffee, this one's for everyone.

📅 Sunday, October 4 ⏰ 9:10am (check-in opens 8am) 📍 Victory Field, Forest Park

Free to register, link in the comments. See you at the start line.

Before the QueensWay breaks ground later this year, there's real work to do on the ground first.

On Sunday, September 27, Friends of the QueensWay is teaming up with Trust for Public Land and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation for a community clean-up along the old MTA LIRR tracks in Forest Park. We'll meet at the Stop & Shop on Union Turnpike in Glendale at 10:30 AM, walk over together to the Forest Park Grove section, and spend an hour and a half clearing debris and getting this stretch ready for its next chapter.

Everything you need will be waiting for you: check-in, gloves, bags, and pickers. Just bring sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and your own water bottle.

Getting there: free parking is available in the garage next to the Stop & Shop, and the Q23, QM12, and QM42 buses stop right out front.

Register now and be part of the last clean-up before this corridor becomes something new. https://events.tpl.org/clean-up-on-the-queens-way-sept/registration/form
