Some Cold air will be moving into the area over the next few days with some windchill values at or below zero. Strong wind gusts Wednesday night and Thursday into Friday are being forecasted.
Should you need sheltered from the cold in the Princeton or Bluefield area, contact the Mercer County 911 centers non emergency line 304-425-8911 and your information will be forwarded to the appropriate agencies Such as the Princeton Salvation Army or the Bluefield Union Mission

The Matoaka Fire Department will have their Fire station open starting at 6pm this evening 12/3/2024 for folks in that area that need to stop by a warming station during this cold weather event.

Bluewell United Methodist Church on Warden Ave. in the Bluewell area will be open from 8pm to 7am starting tonight 12/3/2024 and open as a warming station. There will be a phone number posted at the church to call for assistance into the building.

Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department will have a Warming Station ready and available starting tonight Friday January 19th from 8pm to 8am, Saturday, January 20th from 8pm to 8am, and Sunday January 21st, if needed. Should you need assistance at that warming station contact 304-920-9990 when coming to the warming station. Please use the back door closest to Cemetery Hill in Matoaka.

NWS overview for Potential winter weather event January 6th into the 7th. Much will change as we move forward to the upcoming weekend so stay tuned to local forecast. At this point there may be freezing rain, sleet with this system which will lower snow totals. So don't get to wrapped up in some of the snow totals you may see on social media. It's still early in the forecast. As always it's good to be prepared ahead of any weather event.
