Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires in the Spokane area. 🧡

Last week, Days for Girls Poulsbo prepared and sent some of our Food Bank Kits to the Days for Girls Spokane Valley Chapter, where they will be distributed to people displaced by the fires.

These photos show our team getting everything ready for Tuesday’s shipment. We’re grateful to be able to help provide essential menstrual supplies during a time when so many people have been forced from their homes.

A heartfelt thank you to the firefighters, emergency crews, volunteers, and support teams working tirelessly in Spokane, and our thoughts are with all of the families and individuals affected. 🧡

🧡 What can 106 helping hands accomplish in an afternoon? A LOT!

Days for Girls Poulsbo recently spent an afternoon with 106 girls at a local girls camp, where each group spent an hour learning about Days for Girls and helping us prepare components for menstrual health Kits.

And they got an incredible amount done! Together, the girls:

🧡 Matched 61 shields with liners
🧡 Glued labels on 102 drawstring bags
🧡 Folded 128 pairs of underwear
🧡 Folded 150 washcloths
🧡 Cut 173 pairs of ribbon
🧡 Threaded ribbon through 183 bags
🧡 Unwrapped 200 bars of soap
🧡 Pinned 472 liners for sewing
🧡 Marked 536 liners for serging
🧡 Folded an incredible 1,043 liners!

This is the second year we've been invited to spend time at the camp, and once again, it was a wonderful afternoon for all of us. We're especially grateful for the generous donations of soap, underwear, and washcloths that will go toward future Days for Girls Kits.

And perhaps the sweetest surprise of the day? Several of the girls wrote and sang a short song for us! 🎶🧡

A huge thank you to the camp for inviting Days for Girls Poulsbo back and to all 106 girls who pitched in. Every folded liner, threaded bag, and matched shield helps us get one step closer to providing sustainable menstrual health solutions to those who need them.

🧡 WE MADE BLANKETS FOR KITTIES! 🧡

Occasionally, we get fabric that we can't use for one reason or another. In this case, we received a batch of flannel with manufacturing flaws that made it unusable for our needs.

As you probably know, we never throw anything away if we can help it. Luckily, Michelle, our Miss Poulsbo Miss Kitsap Miss Silverdale Scholarship Organizations chaperone extraordinare, provided the perfect place to send the flannel.

Michelle volunteers with PAWS of Bremerton, a fantastic organization dedicated to providing low cost veterinary care and helping kitties right here in Kitsap County find their furrever homes.

PAWS was thrilled when we offered to turn the unusable flannel into blankets, and we're so excited for the kitties to get something nice to cuddle in!

We had such a great time at Saturday's Sewin! As always our Miss Poulsbo Miss Kitsap Miss Silverdale Scholarship Organizations ladies did a great job, shout-out to their chaperone, Michelle, for always getting them where they need to be!

We focused on drawstring bags, liners, and getting Kit components ready to be packed.

We've been pretty busy lately with community events, keeping Kits in stock at Bremerton Foodline, Central Kitsap Food Bank, Fishline, and Olympic College. We've also sent even more components to Days for Girls International Distribution Center, with more on the way!

Thank you to everyone who turned up, we hope you have a happy, safe summer! We'll see everyone at our next Sewin on September 12th! 🧡

Mark your calendars! The next Days for Girls Poulsbo Sustainable Menstrual Kit Community Sew-In is coming up on July 18 from 10:30 - 2:30 at the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church.

If you're looking for opportunities to volunteer in Kitsap, this is perfect! Newcomers always welcome, absolutely no sewing experience needed!

This March, Days for Girls Poulsbo visited all 4 of our partner food banks; , , , and food pantry.

Day 1 at Bremerton Foodline we handed out 15 Kits. We left an additional 12; they were gone in 6 days.

Patrons are starting to ask for our Kits at the foodbanks, which means that people know about them now. The need is growing, and, thanks to all the incredible people in our chapter, we are doing what little bit we can to fill that need.

If you're looking for ways to volunteer in Kitsap County, and you're passionate about volunteering for humanitarian causes, check out Days for Girls Poulsbo. We bring people together to craft menstrual care kits that support girls, women, and menatruators in Kitsap County and beyond.

The Poulsbo Chapter of Days for Girls is part of a global movement to advance menstrual health, dignity, opportunity, and equity. Our chapter has created over 7,000 Kits in our 10 years, and we're always open to new volunteers.
