It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our friend, Clarence.

Clarence came to us in August of last year thanks to the help of a kind lady who wanted to find this good boy a soft landing to spend the rest of his days. He arrived skinny and his big, knobby knees told the story of years of hard work. He soul, however, told a story of love and resilience. In the nine months that he was with us, Clarence knew love, dignity, and kindness. He had a warm, dry stall, a full belly and lots of attention.

Late last week, Clarence started to have labored breathing. Dr. Missi came out immediately and started him on an antibiotic. She suspected aspiration pneumonia. He stabilized for a few days, but things got worse yesterday. Dr. Missi came out again, gave more antibiotics, a steroid, and albuterol. Clarence didn't eat dinner last night or breakfast this morning. He started to decline while I was with him in the courtyard. It was clear that he was not going to recover. It is never a decision that we take lightly, but Clarence was in distress and needed relief. Clarence passed away peacefully surrounded by his herd and people who loved him. Run fast and free my sweet friend.

Clarence can use more positive thoughts. He was having trouble breathing again and his temperature began to elevate. Dr. Missi came back out to examine him. She feels that he has aspiration pneumonia. She gave Clarence another shot of Excede and left a steroid for us to administer twice a day. It hasn't been an easy road for our sweet, old friend.

His vet expenses are beginning to climb. If you would like to help him out, you can do so through:

Nothing to see here. Just a couple of old, knobby kneed gentlemen making a mess in the barn, bonding over a hay bale. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Clarence is on limited turn out and Harry, frankly, prefers to stay in the barn. The pair of these distinguished gentlemen are living their best lives and I'm just here to clean up after them. 💖

Good news, not so good news .....

Our itty bitty, Rose, is making big improvements!!!! She is bright and eating well on her own. Last night, she even whinnied last night when I was walking horses past her stall!!! This little old lady is a fighter!!

Yesterday morning, Devorah texted me (I was working) to let me know she called the vet because Clarence's breathing was very labored. We've been keeping an eye on Clarence recently because he has had a marked decline in flexion in his big, knobby knees leaving him more stiff than usual. The change in his breathing is a completely new issue. Dr. Missi was able to come out. She reported that Clarence has crackles in his right lung and was running a fever. She gave him an antibiotic and an NSAID. When I got home from work, Clarence seemed to be more comfortable. We will continue to watch our old buddy and keep him comfortable.

I'm super grateful to have Devorah's experienced eye on the herd. These old horses are going to be the death of me!

Keep sending the good vibes Rose's way! I am being cautiously optimistic when I say that our favorite itty bitty made some small progress today. As long as it's progress, we'll take it. She is eating and drinking and looks just a wee bit brighter. Tonight, after I gave her evening meds, I tucked our Rosie in her cozy blanket and buttoned up her stall. The other horses are perfectly fine in this weather, but sweet Rose has no fat reserve and needs all of the extra help she can get. Keep fighting, Rosie!!!

Our girl, Rose, needs all the good vibes, positive thoughts, prayers, JuJu, whatever you believe in sent her way. Rose started to lose weight a little while ago, so we moved her to the main barn with Buster for extra TLC. While Buster flourished, Rose continued to struggle. She has been on a gradual decline regardless of our efforts. This morning, our sweet girl was very weak and wobbly on her legs. Dr. Missi gave us instructions of what to do for our girl. We will give it a few days, spoil her, love her even more, and hope that we make some progress.

Rose is a sweet, old lady in her mid 30s. We bought her off Craigslist many years ago for $50 along with Marty. She came to us blind in her right eye and with a bowed left front leg. None of that stopped her from being a total love bug who enjoys being brushed and pumped.

This past Sunday was our 1st Annual Benefit Bingo. Months of planning and preparation led to an afternoon of fun! 200 players filled the Norco Fire Hall. NBC 10s MC'd the event and called numbers for 20 Bingo rounds and 5 special rounds. was on hand with their smooth nitro coffee and super charged tea to ensure the energy in the room was high! Generous sponsors and donors made it possible to have great prizes, raffle baskets, and delicious baked goods. Our team of dedicated volunteers stepped in and stepped up and made sure the day ran practically seamlessly and I can not possibly thank them enough!!

To all of our donors, sponsors, players, volunteers, to Sheila Watko and Bucktown Beans; thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We appreciate everything that everyone did to help make our first ever fundraising event a success!!!
