Another day, another escape attempt gone wrong. 😂
This little redfoot is convinced they’re serving time in Alcatraz, when in reality they’re at an all-inclusive spa retreat complete with warm soaks, room service, and a dedicated staff.
Tortoises are funny that way. You can give them the perfect life, endless food, and VIP treatment, and they’ll still spend part of their day plotting an escape. It’s not personal—they’re simply following millions of years of instinct telling them to explore what might be on the other side.
That’s why every tortoise keeper should always be prepared for an escape artist. If I accidentally left the back door open, I have a feeling everyone here—including Bunny—would quietly file out and begin their next great adventure.
Today’s getaway attempt: unsuccessful.
Tomorrow’s getaway attempt: probably already being planned. 🐢🚔

The other day we had the pleasure of welcoming a very special visitor from PGA Animal Clinic to the Florida Redfoot Tortoise Sanctuary! 🐢❤️
As anyone who follows our sanctuary knows, we place a tremendous amount of trust in the veterinary professionals who help care for these amazing animals. It was such a joy to spend time with someone who not only works alongside our veterinarian, Dr. Michael Gillen, but who also genuinely loves tortoises and enjoys learning about their care, behavior, and unique personalities.
From meeting our residents to spending time interacting with them in their natural outdoor environment, it was wonderful to see the excitement, compassion, and appreciation she showed for every tortoise she met. Visits like these remind us how fortunate we are to work with veterinary professionals who truly care about the animals they serve.
A great veterinarian is important, but having a team of kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate people supporting that care makes all the difference. We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful staff at PGA Animal Clinic and for the dedication they show to reptiles, tortoises, and their owners every day.
Thank you for spending part of your day with us and for helping make a difference in the lives of so many animals. We hope you enjoyed your tortoise adventure as much as our tortoises enjoyed meeting you! 🐢☀️🌺
If you'd like to learn more about the Florida Redfoot Tortoise Sanctuary, schedule an educational visit, volunteer, sponsor a tortoise, or support our rescue efforts, we'd love to hear from you.

Watching baby Redfoot tortoises eat never gets old. 🐢🌿

One of the most rewarding parts of caring for hatchlings is seeing them eagerly gather around their food trays each day. A healthy appetite is an important sign that babies are growing, developing, and thriving.

At Florida Redfoot Tortoise Sanctuary, our babies receive daily care, including proper humidity, warm temperatures, fresh water, daily soaks, and a varied diet designed specifically for Redfoot tortoises. We offer a mixture of healthy greens, vegetables, flowers, and other appropriate foods to help support strong growth and healthy shell development.

Redfoot tortoises are naturally curious and social animals. It's always fascinating to watch them explore their environment, interact with one another, and discover their favorite foods. Every baby has its own personality, and watching those personalities develop is one of the greatest joys of sanctuary life.

Our mission is Rescue, Rehabilitation, Education, and Lifelong Care. Every view, like, comment, follow, and share helps us continue caring for surrendered Redfoot tortoises and educating current and future tortoise owners.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for helping us spread awareness about proper Redfoot tortoise care.
