Pomona Valley Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Lambda Gamma Sigma chapter was organized under the vision of Western Region Syntaktes, Roschoune Franklin, on May 15, 2010 in Pomona, California.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University.

Huge congratulations to the Pomona Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Woman on your 40th Anniversary Celebration! Sorors Cole, Cooper, Houston, and Licerio were so happy to be in attendance and apart of the celebration! Thank you for recognizing our chapter as well! We were 1 of 7 community organizations recognized for our efforts in the community! It is such an honor. We truly appreciate the recognition and can’t wait to continue to partner and work with you all in Pomona and surrounding cities! 💛💙

Since its inception in 2012, Swim1922 has reached over 100,000 lives, bringing water safety education to communities that need it most. Together, we’re changing lives, creating safer neighborhoods, and saving lives.

This past Saturday we participated in “Kids Day in the Park” and it was a huge success! Hosted by the Caramel Connection Foundation and the Pi Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi , and in Honor of the Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice at the Seeds of Joy Community Garden. This event brought awareness on how the community can help to not only beautify their surroundings but connect with their community and cultivate healthy lifestyles. This event provided numerous resources to the community and celebrated connection. We were elated to be invited to this wonderful event and can’t wait to plant our own seeds of Joy in the beautiful Community Garden.

Water safety education isn’t just for children. Many adults in Black and Brown communities never had the opportunity to learn to swim. Swim1922 welcomes learners of all ages — because it’s never too late to learn basic water safety skills.

Today we celebrate 16 LEGENDARY years of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service in the Pomona Valley area! Thank you to our Charter Members for your commitment to chartering this chapter and guiding us every step of the way!! Today we reflect on 16 years of Greater Service, Greater Progress as we strive to continue to make a difference in our community each day!
