💜🐾 DO YOU KNOW about the Massachusetts "PETS Act"?

🐶🐱 An Act Promoting Pet Equity, Treatment, and Safety (S.3014) is a comprehensive omnibus legislation. After unanimously passing the Massachusetts Senate in March, it has advanced to the House.

📃 The bill covers key areas of animal welfare and pet ownership rights:

*️⃣ Ends the “Puppy Mill-to-Pet Shop” Pipeline: Prohibits pet shops from selling dogs and cats for profit. Pet stores will instead be encouraged to partner with non-profit shelters to display animals available for adoption.

*️⃣ Creates Housing & Insurance Equity: Requires a uniform pet ownership program for state-aided public housing and prohibits discrimination based on a pet’s size or breed. Homeowner insurance companies would be banned from using a dog’s breed to determine coverage, rates, or renewals, effectively ending “breed discrimination.”

*️⃣ Supports Alternatives to Animal Testing: Prohibits manufacturers from using animals for testing on cosmetics or household products when non-animal alternatives exist.

*️⃣ Strengthens Anti-Cruelty Laws: Extends existing a civil statute that allow the use of civil citations to address “cruel conditions”—currently focused on dogs—to cover all household pets

*️⃣ Mass. Animals Fund: Requires certain fees & fines issued by the state to go to the Mass. Animal Fund to spay/neuter and vaccinate homeless animals and those who live with people who cannot afford these services.

America's Hometown Hound Festival is in full swing down at Nelson Park until
3:00! Come on down! 💜🐾🐶 Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals is collecting pet food for our pet food pantries! And we have a great raffle too! ❤️

🌟 The America’s Hometown Hound Festival is ALMOST here! Who’s excited?!?

✳️ Join us for this dog and family friendly event 🐾 Saturday, June 13, 2026, 11 AM - 3 PM, Nelson Park, Plymouth

💦 Dog water bowls will be available throughout the event and for hot dogs, the ocean is steps away for a swim! The Nelson Park concession stand will be open for refreshments!

💜 More than words ... it's what Plymouth Helping Hands for Animals does to make a difference, in addition to fulfilling our primary mission of assisting pets and pet owners in need.

🐴 Yesterday we visited Black Feather Horse Rescue and presented founder Darlene Nickerson with a check for $2,000 to help with the operation of her rescue farm. Darlene loves every horse, donkey, goat, llama, chicken and dog that she has rescued; she gives every ounce of her heart and soul, and throws herself into the incredibly hard work that it takes to give them a peaceful and happy life.
