We’re on a mission to eradicate illiteracy and build stronger communities. Join us today—every child deserves a bright future! The Russell Education Foundation is now in our 18th year of serving low-and-moderate-income students in South Florida. The Russell Reading Program was developed by Twan Russell and his mother, Corliss Russell, a Broward County Public Schools educator who drew upon her experience in the classroom, realizing what was working for her students and where they and their families needed extra assistance. Russell determined that the key to her students’ successes in all subject areas was a mastery of reading comprehension skills.

This is a community.

Students, teachers, volunteers, partners, neighbors - people who decided that
childhood literacy in South Florida is everybody's business, not somebody else's
problem.

Twenty-five years in, this is what it looks like when a community keeps showing
up.

Follow to see the work up close.

Ask the people who do this work every day why it matters, and they don't reach for
statistics.

They tell you about a specific kid. The one who wouldn't read out loud in
September and won't stop by March. The one who asked to take a book home for
the first time.

This is what making a difference actually looks like - up close, in a classroom, one
student at a time.

Follow to hear more from the people behind the
work.

Twenty minutes. That's the whole ask.

A child who reads 20 minutes a day can encounter up to about two million words in
a year and every one of those words builds vocabulary, comprehension, and the
confidence to tackle the next book.

It's not about finishing a chapter. It's about showing up for twenty minutes.
Tonight counts.

Set a timer tonight. Twenty minutes - that's it.

Read. Lead. Succeed.

It's not three separate things. A kid who reads well starts raising their hand. A kid
who raises their hand starts speaking up for others. And somewhere in there, a
reader turns into a leader.

That's the path we're building at every Reading Room. One book at a time.

Follow to watch it happen.

Every great voyage starts with a single page. 📖⛵

This Columbus Day, we're celebrating the spirit of exploration, and there's no better way to discover new worlds than through a book. At our Reading Rooms across South Florida, students chart their own course to confidence, curiosity and lifelong learning, at no cost to families.

Where will your next chapter take you? 🌎

A shelf full of books is a shelf full of doors.

Every one of them leads somewhere a child hasn't been yet - a place, an idea, a
version of themselves they haven't met. Our job is simple: make sure the kids who
need those doors can actually reach them.

That's the work. Come be part of it.

Follow and see what your support makes possible.
