After over a year and a half of conversations, community events, and hundreds of interviews, we are thrilled to share the finalized Community Heart & Soul Statements! These statements reflect what matters most to the people who call Pittsfield home. They define our past, celebrate our present, and pave the way for our future. Here is what you told us:
“Hometown Feel”
Pittsfield residents appreciate the hometown feel that comes from living in a close-knit, safe, walkable and family-friendly community. Many people who grew up here return to raise their families.
No matter who you are, some choose to stay, some choose to come back, and some choose to start a new beginning.
“Economy”
We appreciate Pittsfield’s legacy businesses, entrepreneurs, and local companies that provide job opportunities and stability in town, while welcoming new opportunities for growth.
Residents desire to see downtown (Main St.) revitalized. Long-time residents miss the vibrancy of a centrally-located community hub with local businesses and gathering places.
“Education”
Pittsfield values its educational institutions that offer growth and learning for their children. The cultural, musical, and athletic programs, including ballet, are much appreciated and are a reason that families choose to move, play, and stay in town.
“Events & Celebrations”
Pittsfield fosters a vibrant and connected community through a variety of events, from the Summer Concert Series and local parades to family-centered programs supported by the Police Department, such as Trunk or Treat. Honoring its past while looking ahead, the community supports the potential revitalization of cherished traditions. This makes Pittsfield a regional destination for family-friendly gatherings that unite residents and showcase local culture.
“Recreation & Amenities”
Pittsfield values accessible spaces that foster recreation, connection, and community pride. Local parks, including Manson, have long been central to family traditions through outdoor recreation, fishing, cookouts, and other events. Seasonal destinations like The Pinnacle support winter activities, while the community pool entertains during the summer.
The library continues to serve as a special gathering place for reading, education, and club meetings. Residents look forward with enthusiasm to new opportunities and ways to restore, enhance, and invest in our recreational assets.
“Institutions & Services”
Pittsfield is a cornerstone community. It is anchored by highly-regarded educational institutions, municipal services, health care, and essential community centers that foster connections, growth and support all generations.
