Frontier District, Laurel Highlands Council The Frontier District, located in the Laurel Highlands Council, serves youth along the I-376 West Corridor from Pittsburgh to the Airport.

Serving over 1,100 youth ages 7-20 years in over 10 communities along the I-376 corridor from Pittsburgh to the Airport. In 2015, these youth completed over 10,000 hours of community service in their neighborhood which is valued at over $230,000. A recent study completed by Tufts University has shown that involvement in the Scouting Program builds character in all of the youth that it serves! The

study surveyed nearly 1,800 Cub Scouts and nearly 400 non-Scouts under the age of 12. The data showed that in the beginning there were not any significant differences in character attributes between the two groups. By the end, the differences were striking! The more time kids spend in Scouting, the better the outcomes in character development. Those who attended meetings regularly report higher outcomes across the board. Scouts are more likely to embrace positive social values than non-Scouts. Scouts who are more engaged in the program report higher outcomes in nearly every category! Each May, the sprawling, 300-acre Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville — one of Pittsburgh’s oldest and most historic burial grounds — becomes the site of an enormous volunteer effort. By Memorial Day weekend, more than 15,000 tiny flags flutter beside veterans’ graves, stretching across hillsides and under old shade trees.

The work begins long before the annual Lawrenceville Memorial Day parade reaches the cemetery gates.
