Ward Home’s Supervised Independent Living program (SIL) is a community-based, residential program serving young adults ages 16-21 in apartment-style housing under 24 hour supervision. These homes are more than just temporary housing; they are safe, nurturing, home environments where young adults are encouraged to reach their individual goals and grow into successful, independent members of their c

ommunities. In the SIL program, emphasis is placed on developing social and life skills, obtaining and maintaining employment and/or volunteer work, completing an education plan, staying safe and having healthy relationships, and identifying secure and affordable housing.

Being a typical teen is hard enough in today’s world but being a typical foster teen is even harder.

Meet Tia, a typical foster teen living at Ward Home. Tia says she believes in herself and, after living at the teen girls’ site for almost a year, is slowly beginning to blossom with self-confidence. She has been taking an interest in her appearance. She is meeting with her tutor weekly. She participates in activities. Yet, Tia continues to struggles and must rely on her own determination along with the support of Ward Home. Read more about Tia via the link below!

Tis the season for our holiday Angel Program! We had a very special pickup this morning at South Park High School. Members of Mr. Surovchak's Interact Club provided the babies and children of our program with toys and clothes for Christmas. We are so grateful for this longtime partnership and thankful for their dedication and generosity to our foster youth and their children. South Park School District

This week we bid a fond farewell to our Fall 2018 Development Department intern, Jordan! She was a huge help to us this semester with taking the lead on our Holiday Angel Gift Program and assisting with appeals, news releases and special events. Jordan will graduate in just a few weeks from California University of Pennsylvania with a major in Communication Studies and a concentration in Public Relations. LIKE this post to help us wish Jordan the best of luck!

We were honored to attend the WOMEN of Southwestern PA, Inc. grant recipient dinner last week, where we shared with all of the grant recipients from the previous fiscal year how this generous grant helped us provide vacuum cleaners, storage cubes, and wall decorations for our teen mom's and girl's apartments. We also want to congratulate WOMEN on their 2018 National Philanthropy Day Award via the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Western Pennsylvania Chapter for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization! A well-deserved honor for an amazing group of women.
