Our precious girl, Manly, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on August 9, 2026. 💔🌈
She was our little Princess — the one who was truly in charge of our home, despite her half-sister, Sydney, holding the official title of Queen. Miss Manly had a bold and beautiful personality and never hesitated to share her opinions — often quite vocally. She was a tiny girl, only about five pounds, but she had an enormous presence. She proved her amazing strength and bravery immediately by enduring a broken leg only two days after we adopted her!
Over the years, Manly collected many nicknames because she was always giving us reasons to laugh and appreciate all the little things that made her so uniquely wonderful.
She was once known as our “Strawberry Bandit” because she would pick strawberries right off the plants in our backyard and run them over to me so I could give them to her. 🍓 We often called her our “Peanut Princess” due to her adoring features; and our “Choo-Choo Chin,” because before every meal she would race around the house as though she were traveling along her own little train track before finally pulling into the station to eat.
She loved exploring the perimeter of our yard, always making sure no chipmunks were invading her territory.
Manly absolutely loved being warm. During the winter, she would lie directly on top of the furnace vent. Somehow, she always knew the instant the furnace kicked on and would sprint to her favorite vent to get cozy. When the weather was warm, she loved sunning herself on the patio or finding the perfect little ray of sunshine coming through the windows.
When Manly was comfortable and content, she would roll over and offer you her belly for a rub. It was one of the sweetest things. She would stretch in appreciation and actually smile during those special belly rubs. ❤️
She much preferred a stroll in her stroller to an actual walk and would sit proudly looking out as we made our way through the neighborhood. But car rides were her favorite. Even stopping at a rest area was an adventure for Manly — a new place to explore, with new grass, new surroundings and, of course, new smells.
Manly is one of our precious Japanese Chin who inspired the creation of For the Love of Chin. Her journey through so many congenital health challenges was part of what taught me just how important access to specialty veterinary care can be. Her life will forever remind me why our mission — helping dogs receive the specialty care they deserve — matters so very much.
Our gratitude for the nine years we were blessed to love this remarkable little girl is overwhelming. Nine years could never have been enough, but we are so incredibly thankful that she was ours.
Manly was our tiny Princess, our Strawberry Bandit, our Peanut Princess, our Choo-Choo Chin, and our sweet earthly angel. She filled our home with her personality, her opinions, her funny little routines and, most of all, her love.
She will live in our hearts eternally, and we will forever honor her for the perfectly unique and sweet soul she was.
Rest peacefully, sweet Princess. You are free from pain now and in the company of our Angel Chin — your Chin mom, Aussie, and our other remarkable Chin, Captain, Morgan and Bono Bailey. I know you are surrounded by some very special souls.
Run free, Miss Manly, through endless strawberry fields where every strawberry is yours for the picking. 🍓🌈🐾
