Calliope is a nonprofit organization that promotes and preserves traditional and contemporary folk music.

Calliope presents concerts, operates the Calliope School of Folk Music, and conducts a free educational outreach program for kids ages K-12. We have free community jams and events, and our other concerts cost from $12-$38, with special student rates ranging from $10-$20. Our concerts feature both outstanding local bands and national acts. Calliope's concerts are regularly featured as best picks and concerts of the year in the City Paper, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Coming up next... The Music Business De-Mystified: I Have Money! What Now? Budgetting and Working Within a Small Budget

In this session, we will cover everything from budgeting and how to do a lot with a little, to negotiating fair contracts, what to avoid spending money on, and where to invest most effectively (for your particular situation). This panel will share specific anecdotes about how they got around a system not built for the “starving artist.” Unfortunately, some people take advantage of independent artists. Let’s talk about how to avoid these situations and advocate for ourselves in these less-than-ideal situations.

This workshop is built for everyone in the music industry (musicians themselves, photographers, producers, engineers, etc.), at any stage of their career. You don't have to be a full time musician to still have questions about the music business!

Calliope’s 2026-27 Mainstage season starts next weekend with Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild!

We’re so excited to welcome this acoustic folk trio to the North Side for an evening of songs and stories. Sumner is known for her vivid songwriting and references to historical events and people- which we think is the perfect way to kick off our season and celebrate our 50th anniversary.

Calliope is excited to launch our first workshop series! The Music Business De-Mystified is a four-session series designed to help independent musicians advocate, book, market, and release music for themselves.

The first session, Do I Really Need to Sell Myself?, is taking place on October 8 at The Roots Cellar, and will include a panel discussion, Q&A, and a hands on activity.

This is a great opportunity to network with other musicians, get advice, share ideas, and grow your career. We hope you can join us!
