Fran Ruppen Named Rotary Club of Pleasant Hills Rotarian of the Year

The Rotary Club of Pleasant Hills proudly recognized Fran Ruppen as its 2025-2026 Rotarian of the Year during the club's annual Recognition Night.

The award honors a Rotarian who exemplifies Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self," and Fran's dedication to both the club and the community made her a natural choice.

In presenting the award, Dr. Janet Sardon, last year's recipient, highlighted Fran's lifelong commitment to service. Long before joining Rotary, Fran devoted countless hours to volunteering with organizations supporting cancer patients, animal rescue efforts, Meals on Wheels, SHIM, Dress for Success, and Operation Troop Appreciation.

Since joining Rotary in 2024, Fran has become one of the club's most active and enthusiastic members. She quickly embraced Rotary's mission, helping secure sponsorships and donations, supporting fundraisers, serving as club secretary, and personally writing thank-you notes to donors and supporters.

"From the very beginning, she jumped in with unmatched enthusiasm," Janet said during the presentation. "Her joy in serving others is evident in everything she does."

Fran's passion for service is perhaps best reflected in her belief that Rotary members should not only "talk the talk" but also "walk the walk" by actively serving their communities.

The Rotary Club of Pleasant Hills congratulates Fran Ruppen on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for the energy, compassion, and dedication she brings to Rotary and the South Hills community.

Service Beyond the Classroom: Pleasant Hills Rotary Explores New "IMPACT" Club for Local Teachers
PLEASANT HILLS, PA – On Thursday, March 26th, the spirit of service met the passion of education as the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hills hosted a "Discover Rotary" session at the Juniper Grill. The evening marked an exciting first step toward a new frontier in local community service: the formation of a Cause-Based IMPACT Club specifically designed for teachers.
A Focus on Educators
The proposed IMPACT Club aims to bridge the gap between several South Hills school districts, bringing together educators from Brentwood, West Jefferson Hills, and South Park. Unlike traditional clubs, this cause-based model allows teachers to tackle the unique challenges facing their students and schools while enjoying a flexible schedule that respects the demands of the academic calendar.
A Warm Welcome
The atmosphere was one of collaboration and shared goals. Attendees were greeted by seasoned members of the Pleasant Hills parent club, including President Cindy Weiss, who shared her vision for how Rotary can support the professional and personal lives of those shaping the next generation.
"Teachers are already the backbone of our community," noted the club leadership. "An IMPACT club gives them a platform to amplify their efforts, network across district lines, and access Rotary’s global resources to benefit their local classrooms."
What’s Next?
The "Discover Rotary" session allowed potential members to learn about the 1.4 million-member global network they would be joining, as well as the specific autonomy an IMPACT club holds. By focusing on the needs of South Hills schools, these educators are looking to turn collective ideas into tangible community projects.

Key Highlights of the Evening:
• Collaboration: Teachers from three major South Hills districts finding common ground.
• Innovation: Exploring the "IMPACT" model, which prioritizes project-based service over weekly meetings.
• Mentorship: Guidance provided by President Cindy Weiss and the Pleasant Hills Rotary board.
Interested in joining the movement? The Rotary Club of Pleasant Hills continues to welcome educators from all South Hills districts to participate in this growing initiative.
