This eye-catching quilt, “35 Sisters,” is more than just fabric and thread – it's a tribute to Pittsburgh’s iconic Three Sisters bridges and the women who brought it to life.

Made by 34 members of the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild, the quilt gets its name from its 35th “sister”: the Roberto Clemente Bridge, which it boldly depicts.

Created as part of a national quilting challenge, “35 Sisters” showcases the hallmarks of modern quilting with its improvisational piecing, high contrast, negative space, and bold colors. It went on to win Best of Show at both the Three Rivers and North Hills Quilt Shows in 2016.

See this detailed work of art for yourself in our new exhibition, Pittsburgh’s Hidden History.
