ACUI Region II

The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) works to advance campus community builders. The Association has eight regions.

Region II serves Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico.

Introducing our second opening Keynote Speaker for the Region II Conference - Dr. Paola Sainz Sujet.

Keynote Feature:

Dr. Paola Sainz Sujet is the Coordinator of Program Assessment in University Assessment and Testing (UAT) at Oklahoma State University. In this role, she supports academic programs in student learning outcomes assessment, annual program outcomes assessment reporting, and assessment practices that promote continuous improvement and accreditation efforts.

Originally from Bolivia, Dr. Sainz Sujet earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Universidad Privada de Santa Cruz de la Sierra and a master’s degree in information and communication technology Applied to Education from the University of Salamanca in Spain. She later earned both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University, along with several graduate certificates in education and human resources.

Dr. Sainz Sujet is a member of the Research Council for the Bolivian Academy of Sciences and the P3 research group where she participated in several research projects regarding pet therapy and student well-being, as well as the organization of the first P3 Research Symposium. Her professional and research interests include educational assessment, institutional effectiveness, student success, program evaluation, animal therapy, and the use of evidence to improve higher education.

Introducing our first opening Keynote Speaker for the ACUI Region II Conference in Stillwater, Oklahoma - Ann Hargis!

Ann Hargis is a philanthropist, community leader and passionate advocate for health, wellness and human connection. Raised in Dallas, she earned degrees in mathematics and Latin from The University of Texas before becoming one of IBM’s first female systems engineers. Throughout her career, she has served on numerous statewide boards in education, the arts and history, receiving appointments from three Oklahoma governors.

From 2008 to 2021, Hargis served alongside her husband, former Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis, as OSU’s First Cowgirl. She transformed the traditional role of university first lady into a platform for meaningful impact, championing student success, holistic wellness and a stronger sense of community across the OSU system. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing OSU as America’s Healthiest Campus.

In 2013, Hargis co-founded Pete’s Pet Posse, which has grown into the nation’s most comprehensive university-based pet therapy program. She remains actively involved as a co-founder and continues to provide leadership and support to the Ann Hargis OSU Center for Pet Therapy. Through professionally trained and nationally certified pet therapy teams, the program provides comfort, connection and emotional support to students, faculty, staff and guests across the OSU system.

Hargis’ many honors include The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year, the Oklahoma Jewish Federation’s Life and Light Award, the Women for OSU Philanthropist of the Year Award and an honorary doctorate from Oklahoma State University for her dedication to health and wellness. In 2023, she and her husband were inducted into the Oklahoma State University Hall of Fame.

In November 2026, Hargis will receive Oklahoma’s highest honor when she is inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. She will join her husband, a member of the Hall’s Class of 2009, further recognizing a lifetime devoted to service, compassion and improving the lives of others.

Inviting all ACUI regions! The Region II Webinar with special guest, J.D. Wood is tomorrow! Join us from 12:30-1:30 PM CST for a conversation with J.D. Wood, member of the 2026 North Texas FWC (FIFA World Cup) Organizing Committee to learn about his experience as the ream and venue services manager for the North Texas area. J.D. has a long history in sports and facilities management in Texas and is excited for a guided Q&A with ACUI about his experience preparing and executing a global sporting event. While this program is proudly presented by Region II, all ACUI members and their interested student employees are encouraged to join this program.
