From curious beginners to experienced mycologists, everyone is welcome. Learn more, become a member, and see upcoming events: wpamushroomclub.org The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club was created to promote the enjoyment, study, and exchange of information about wild mushrooms. Everyone who has an interest in wild mushrooms is welcome to become a member. Activities include regular meetings, projects centered on mushrooms, and walks and forays. There is no better way to learn mushrooms than to join a mushroom club. We hold nine informative meetings a year and this year we are going to have eighteen mushroom walks or forays to help you learn about mushrooms. The cost is $15 for an individual, $20 for a family membership, and $10 for a full time student. Print the Membership Application and send it in with your dues to receive discounts on club events and mushrooming materials.

🍄Did you know several WPMC members are also iNaturalist Ambassadors? Our community doesn’t just love finding fungi — we love documenting what we find, learning from one another, and contributing to biodiversity data along the way.

iNaturalist.org is a great way to keep track of the fungi (and everything else!) you encounter, get help with identifications, and see what other nature lovers are finding throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond. 🌿🔎

And WPMC has our own iNaturalist project! 🍄 Join the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club project to connect with fellow members and see what our community is finding.

📸🍄 Calling all WPMC photographers & artists!

Our Annual WPMC Photo Contest is back, and the deadline to enter is September 30!

Whether you’re an experienced photographer, just starting to photograph fungi, or creating mushroom-inspired art, we want to see what you’ve been working on. Your photos and artwork are what make this annual presentation so colorful, creative, and fun — and prizes will be awarded to contest winners! 🏆

This year’s five divisions are:
Pictorial – Advanced, Pictorial – Novice, Documentary, Judge’s Option, and Art.

🍄 Join WPMC on Tuesday, September 15 for our monthly meeting featuring Maria Pinto on A Survey of Black Mycologies.

In this presentation, Maria will read from her book, Fearless, Sleep-less, Deathless: What Fungi Taught Me about Nourishment, Poison, Ecology, Hidden Histories, Zombies, and Black Survival. She will talk about the inspirations for her book and what she found when she went looking for Black mycophilia at home and abroad.

We’re excited to welcome Chef Sam Bucklin to the 26th Annual Gary Lincoff Memorial Foray for a live cooking demonstration!

👨‍🍳 Meet Chef Sam
Sam has worked in restaurants for more than 12 years and currently serves as Chef de Cuisine at Round Corner Cantina in Lawrenceville. His cooking focuses on traditional Mexican cuisine, with a particular passion for peppers, mushrooms, and locally sourced produce.

🌶️ What’s cooking?
Chef Sam will be demonstrating Hongos Asados on tostadas with a vegan huitlacoche aioli! His hongos asados — roasted or grilled mushrooms — will be marinated with a blend of dried chiles, onion, garlic, and spices before being served on crisp tostadas and finished with huitlacoche aioli.

We can’t wait to see (and taste 👀) what he has in store!

WPMC members can earn recognition for building their identification skills — starting with the 10 Species Button and working their way up through 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and beyond! 🏅🍄

The program is all about learning: getting to know our local fungi, practicing identification in the field, and challenging yourself to recognize more species as your mycological knowledge grows. 🌲🔬
