💡 Join our RESTORE Training!
Are you a social worker, educator, faith leader, therapist, counselor, mediator, legal or justice professional—or anyone working directly with people in Southwestern Pennsylvania? Our RESTORE training equips human service professionals with practical skills to recognize early warning signs of radicalization to violent extremism, intervene effectively, and support individuals in building safer, constructive paths.

➡️ Communities across the U.S. face rising polarization, hate-driven violence, and extremist recruitment. In nearly 8 out of 10 cases, someone is aware of the individual’s growing ideological commitment to violence before harm occurs, but doesn’t know what to do or where to turn for help and advice. We fill this critical “middle space” between general awareness and law enforcement by providing civil society–based, evidence-driven tools for early intervention.

➡️ RESTORE is the flagship initiative of Violence Prevention Network USA (VPN USA), launched in Pittsburgh in 2023. Building on over 20 years of proven practice in Germany, where VPN has supported more than 9,280 individuals in disengaging from violent extremist groups, VPN USA brings this expertise into the U.S. context.

We are proud to announce that our co-founder and co-managing director, Judy Korn, has been awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit today (comparable to the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the US). With this award, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, honors Judy Korn’s decades of commitment to the global prevention of violent extremism and deradicalization which has earned her an outstanding reputation both nationally and internationally. We see this award as a sign that the fight against violent extremism is of great social importance, and as a strong recognition of the unique approach taken by Violence Prevention Network.

In 2004, Judy Korn founded Violence Prevention Network gGmbH – one of the largest civil society organizations in Europe. In 2022, she co-founded Violence Prevention Network USA, expanding this pioneering work to the US. She has received numerous awards for her leadership, including being named an Ashoka Fellow (2007), one of the “100 Women of Tomorrow” by the initiative Germany – Land of Ideas (2011), and receiving the Immanuel Kant World Citizen Award (2019).

With the Federal Order of Merit, her personal commitment to an open and democratic society has now received the highest state recognition. The VPN USA team is thrilled about this honor and extends its heartfelt congratulations!

💡 Insights from a RESTORE Training Participant! 💡

Karina Swanson Andrásiková, Violence Prevention Practitioner, shares her experience with the RESTORE training.

"The RESTORE training helped me expand my knowledge portfolio. It was important not just for gaining new information, but more so for deepening my understanding of people that may be at risk of radicalization. It allowed me to view them as individuals in need of supportive interventions and social and psychological services, rather than solely as perpetrators of violence and crime."

You, too, can gain these essential skills by joining the upcoming RESTORE Project Violence Prevention Training, designed to equip you with the tools to help individuals reject hate, abandon violence, and embrace new ways of thinking.

📅 March 3–7, 2025
⏰ 9 AM–5 PM daily
📍 Pittsburgh, PA

This FREE program, led by experts from Violence Prevention Network, includes stipends and scholarships for a limited number of participants.

This training is intended for U.S.-based practitioners, with priority given to applicants who live and work in Pennsylvania.

TRAINING TESTIMONIAL: Kurt Danysh (Founder & Executive Director of Tomorrow’s Neighbors) participated in our first RESTORE training cohort in 2023. Here he shares a bit about how the experience has strengthened his work with returning citizens: “The insight, education, and tools I gained helped me better serve individuals exiting both prison and hate groups. We are presently serving an individual doing both. To be honest, had I not done the training, I probably would have denied him services. Instead, I felt more confident working with this population, and he is today a changed person.”
