Community Kitchen Pittsburgh uses food as the foundation to change lives and strengthen communities by providing culinary training and opening career pathways to individuals who experience barriers to employment. CKP operates out of the idea that every person who comes through our doors is inherently worthy and has the potential to reach and exceed their goals, regardless of their past. We offer training programs, transitional employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and job placement services that are designed to meet participants where they are and connect them with stable, higher-than-entry-level positions in culinary or adjacent industries that lead to wage progression and professional advancement. Since 2014, over 500 students have graduated from CKP, 95% of whom are employed within 30 days. Our graduates are now powering the back of the house in restaurants and professional kitchens throughout Pittsburgh and beyond. We're also a proud member of the Catalyst Kitchens Network.

Last Thursday, our office team headed down to the kitchen to roll up their sleeves and help prepare boxed lunches for a catering order. From the office to the kitchen, everyone plays a part in making CKP's work possible.

September may have been quiet around the facility, but we’ve been busy behind the scenes!

We kicked off the month with an amazing partnership day with Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. Their team volunteered with us, shared a meal from their employee cookbook, and generously supported CKPGH with a donation. We’re so grateful for this partnership!

Our catering team also stayed busy with private events and corporate lunches, giving our students valuable hands-on experience along the way.

We also welcomed new students and celebrated plenty of growth from those already in the program.

September was a busy one, and we can’t wait to see what the final months of the year bring!

To close out Workforce Development Month, we want to celebrate the incredible chefs who dedicate their time and talent to preparing our students for careers in the culinary industry.

Chef Dan, Chef Don, and Chef Carleen spend their days teaching our students the fundamentals of the culinary arts and helping them build the skills they need to be restaurant-ready when they leave our facility. Their countless hours, dedication, and patience make such a meaningful impact on our students and their futures.

Thank you, chefs, for everything you do. We truly could not do this without you!

And a special shoutout to our Program Team for their dedication to welcoming new students into our programs and helping our current students connect with opportunities beyond our doors. Your work helps turn training into real opportunities, and we are so grateful for all that you do.

A Taste of France offers a one-time-only menu by our amazing Chef Dan Czerpak. Combining seasonal flavors and traditional French cuisine for a modern twist on classic dishes. You sure do not want to miss out on this experience.

Proceeds from tonight’s dinner will directly support the University of Pittsburgh’s French Nationality Room scholarship, offering a Pitt student the opportunity to study abroad in France.

Workforce development is about more than learning job skills; it’s about creating opportunities for people to build confidence, gain real-world experience, and connect with meaningful careers.

One of the ways we do that is through our food truck! Throughout the year, our students have the opportunity to work at community events, gaining hands-on experience while interacting with the public, working as a team, and developing valuable customer service and workplace skills.

And the impact goes even further. As a social enterprise, proceeds from the food truck help support our workforce development efforts and Community Meals Program, so every meal served helps make a difference.

This month, we’re celebrating the students, staff, partners, and community members who help create pathways to opportunity and build a stronger workforce together!

On October 15, we’re partnering with the University of Pittsburgh French Nationality Room Committee for a special, one-night-only French-inspired dinner at CKP.

Even better, 100% of the proceeds will benefit the French Nationality Room Committee’s scholarship, which helps send a Pitt student to France for a summer of study abroad.

Join us for an evening of great food and an even better cause. Our wonderful chefs at CKP will be creating a delicious French-inspired menu with a modern twist, prepared especially for the occasion.

Come raise a glass, enjoy an unforgettable meal, and help support Pitt students as they experience French language and culture abroad.
