Kinetic Theatre was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of actor Matt DeCaro on Saturday, April 25.
A Chicago acting legend, Matt was nominated 9 times for the esteemed Joseph Jefferson Award, winning 5 times (most recently for his Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at Drury Lane in 2018). Matt was performing at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre in August Wilson’s play, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, at the time of his passing.
Matt performed in numerous Pittsburgh productions with both PICT (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, King Lear, Chekhov Festival, The School for Lies) and Kinetic Theatre (the Judge in Romance, The Illustrious Invalid). He was excited to return this summer to play Jerry in David Mamet’s new play, Henry Johnson. We will now dedicate the production, which opens our season and plays July 9-26 at Carnegie Stage, to his memory.
