On February 27th, this beautiful human..... mom, wife, friend... sat on a panel for the community screening of the documentary of "However Long", a film about metastatic breast cancer (MBC). She was hopeful and brave and honest. It is upsetting to share with you that on April 1st, Jill died of her MBC. No community is spared. Please continue to advocate for research, for clinical trials, for support and for funding. It is life or death. These are things that Jill worked tirelessly for while she lived with MBC. We can honor her and her memory in doing so. Most sincere sympathy to Jill's family.

Many of us are wondering about this...... scientists carry on their work despite the current health crisis. Thank you to them and to all of the frontline healthcare providers working for the benefit of each of us!

The COVID-19 epidemic is disrupting the cancer research field, forcing annual meetings to be cancelled and impacting clinical trials. But some cancer researchers say the pandemic will force them to create new ways to find solutions.

Informative, powerful, real, poignant, empowering, heart-wrenching, amazing..... just a few of the adjectives that 60 attendees used to describe the film ("However Long" by Jenny MacKenzie) and follow up discussion. Thank you to everyone who attended and to our panelists. Knowledge is power and the hope is that you are called to act .... to learn more, to advocate, to donate, to tell a friend or to support someone living with MBC.

So many people to thank.... Ruth Modzelewski, Sasha Milicevic, Lois Karran, Carola Neumann, Dionne Brelsford/Winchester Thurston, Jacquelyn Cynkar (photo credits), Jennifer Harris Tepe and daughter Olivia, Francesca DiVito, Kathy Purcell, Dr. Shannon Puhalla, Marlene West, Dr. Rebecca Watters and Jill Griffin.

Sandi is an outlier in the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) world. She has been living with MBC for 20+ years. Her words are important to hear. Clinical trials are important. Funding for MBC research is important. Hope is important. We want more Sandi's.

This is a powerful interview with Host Matt Birnholz, MD and Guest Marina Kaplan, PhD and metastatic breast cancer patient/advocate. Marina passed away this week. Her words highlight a significant challenge for both researchers and patients. Please listen.....

Ms. Marina Kaplan's inspiring life history as an "outlier survivor" as she put it for having achieved remission from triple-negative breast cancer over six years ago was helped by numerous cutting-edge clinical trials made accessible to her. But the experience as a study subject exposed her to syste...
