Book Fairies of Pennsylvania

Book Fairies of Pennsylvania The Book Fairies are people around the world, sharing the joy of reading by leaving their books in public places to be found by the next reader.

Often leaving a note inside, and with our sticker on the outside, the books are then found, read, and then hidden again.

It’s June and the start of our season! We’d love for as many fairies to join in. Pop a Pride sticker on a book, maybe add a little rainbow ribbon, and hide it for a lucky finder 🌈

Another great way to celebrate is to share a pic of one of your favourite Pride related books, and maybe do a post!

This Thursday is World Book Night and The Book Fairies are celebrating this initiative, encouraging the act of reading in our busy day-to-day lives! While it’s usually aimed at the UK, we think that everyone around the world deserves to celebrate and take some time out of their day on Shakespeare’s birthday 💚

What is World Book Night?

From 7pm to 8pm EST this Thursday, people plan to dedicate their time to reading, sharing their activity under the hashtag . This can happen in many different ways, whether you’re reading alone, hosting a book club meeting, listening to an audiobook on the train, or reading to your children at bedtime. Just get reading! Many around the world celebrate World Book Day also on the 23rd of April 📚

How can I prepare?

Share the news with family and friends, let them know that, for one hour, there may be a little quiet between telephones as you snuggle up with a book. You can also choose your book ahead of time, and get excited about entering a new world, for however long you’d like!

As April 23rd is a certain Bard’s birthday, maybe pick up a play of his you’ve not read yet, or a collection of sonnets. The choice is yours!

We encourage you to take some time out of your evening to unwind and prioritise your TBR, whether it be for the full hour, or five minutes, show your bookshelf
some love!

A beautiful book drop at the Old Salem Market in Greensburg PA!

Will you be the lucky finder of this copy of Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian? (We love a Pennsylvania author!)

About the book:

A summer read about first love, feminism, and ice cream.

Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends.

Let’s go offline to mark the end of December! Our very first was on the last Sunday of December in 2017, so this is a special one to mark every year.

Take Sunday 28th December for your own reading pleasure! It is a chance to get away from screens and curl up with a good book 💚

What does this mean?

A day of reading is a chance to put down your phone, log off social media stuff and just... read. Read that book you love. Read that book that’s been on the shelf for ages. Read that book you bought yesterday. Read that book you’ve told everyone you’ve already read. Listen to a book while organising your book shelf. Whatever it is, we are celebrating a whole day offline with a book. 📚

How can I get involved?

It’s pretty easy. Just pick up a book and read. Ideally (for you) all day. Or at least part of the day. We want to encourage fairies to spend a good few hours losing yourself in another world. And yes it is a little selfish... as that is exactly what we want to do too 😊

What can I do to prepare?

Choose a book! Then? Tell everyone you’re celebrating a Day of Reading with The Book Fairies and you might be a little quiet. You can even share the book you’ve chosen by commenting below or posting with   BEFORE Sunday 28th 👍

Let’s get reading this Halloween! The Book Scaries are celebrating some great reads this spooky season. Who will be lucky enough to find this page turning true crime book - Down to the Bone by Caitlin Rother?

About the book:

On February 15, 2010, Joseph McStay, his wife Summer, and their two young sons were reported missing from their new home in San Diego County. They left eggs and fruit rotting on the counter. Their Dodge truck sat in the driveway. Their dogs were abandoned outside without food. But investigators found no blood, signs of a struggle, or clues to their whereabouts. Did the family take an unannounced vacation? Were they running away from personal problems? Or were they victims of foul play?

Nearly four years later, a motorcyclist found the McStays’ remains in and around two shallow graves, one hundred miles away in the Mojave Desert. Their skulls showed signs of blunt-force trauma, likely due to the sledgehammer buried with them. Authorities focused on Charles "Chase" Merritt, a close friend and subcontractor for Joseph’s company. Despite a lack of physical evidence, scenarios that defied logic, and numerous unanswered questions, prosecutors convinced a jury of Merritt’s guilt. After an emotional sentencing hearing, the judge imposed the death penalty. But did another possible suspect, who was ignored by investigators and ducked a subpoena to testify, get away with murder?

“I wasn’t supposed to be here…”

Let’s get witchy! The Book Scaries are celebrating some great reads this Halloween! Who will be lucky enough to find this thrilling book - House of Rayne by Harley Laroux?

About the book:

Rayne.

Death has followed me since childhood. My mother's murder and father's violent death changed me, teaching me just how cruel the world could be.

I never got what I wanted, until Salem showed up at my door. She’s adventurous, beautiful, and doomed if she stays here. Now, I suddenly have something to lose: the woman who broke down my walls and saw through my mask, who showed me I'm worth loving. My family has long been buried, but even the vilest of secrets must be dug up again to survive the evil that hunts us.

I finally have something to fight for, and I'll do whatever it takes to save her.

Let’s get into the spooky season! The Book Scaries are celebrating some great reads this Halloween! Who will be lucky enough to find this thrilling book - Grimdark by Shannon Morgan?

About the book:

Teetering on the edge of the North Sea in Norfolk, Grimdark Hall is both grim and dark in name and nature.

When Cló and Jude Honeyborne arrive from Toronto to claim Jude’s inheritance, Cló is unsettled by the foreboding ancient building and the hostility of Jude’s sisters, who stalk her every move.

But Cló is drawn to the strange energy of the treacherous fens and the haunting sadness of a drowned village in the bay where ghostly church bells toll thirteen, sweeping her back into another woman’s memories…

In 1645 Euphemia Figgis was accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake, screaming a curse on the Honeybornes as the flames consumed her. Now, flashes of Effie’s life torment Cló at every turn. Cló isn’t the only one who’s lived before: an odd little girl lurks about Grimdark claiming to be the reincarnation of a notorious pirate, and waiting in the shadows is a darker, vengeful incarnation who has hunted them both through the centuries in search of a medieval treasure.

As echoes of Cló’s past lives converge in present threats, she must confront a final reckoning of old betrayals and relentless greed to end an eight-hundred-year-old quest for vengeance.
