First period started off slow, but the Hornets got their skates back under them and battled hard. Great passing teamwide, hard battles on the boards and crashing the net for rebound goals won the day for our 2016 Hornets 🐝

Way to go boys! Your hard work paid off today!

Meet the Team!

The Hornets 12U-2 hockey team is a fun, talented and exciting group of players. As a mixed year general team, 12U-2 has an excellent mix of new and experienced Peewee skaters. 12U-2 is slated to play in several tournaments, which includes trips to Cleveland, Detroit, and Buffalo. This season promises to be one to remember for players, coaches and families!

They are lead by Coach Smith
…. who said, ‘With over 20 years of youth athletics experience, I focus on developing young hockey players on and off the ice. Currently coaching the Hornets 12U-2 team, my previous experience includes coaching multi-age levels at Baldwin High School and Mt. Lebanon Hornets, as well as youth lacrosse and track and field. I am a USA Hockey Level IV certified coach and played hockey for Robert Morris University (2000–2003). Emphasizing leadership, discipline, and personal responsibility, I work to build well-rounded athletes prepared for higher-level competition.’

Assistant coaches : Jason Bartley, Jason McBride, Justin Simoni.

Let’s do another Meet The Team!

The Mt. Lebanon Hornets’ 12U Team Wargo is a hardworking group of young players focused on developing their skills, building confidence and growing together as teammates. The team is led by Head Coach Brandon Wargo, who is entering his fourth season coaching with the Hornets. Brandon played travel hockey in the Pittsburgh area before relocating to Florida during high school and later playing for the Florida Gulf Coast University Club Hockey Team. Assistant Coach Bob C***a brings five years of coaching experience to his first season with the Hornets, including three years with SHAHA and one year helping with Little Penguins. A USA Hockey Level 4 coach, Bob played amateur hockey for a decade in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. He played for the Hornets from Pee-Wee through Midget, was an assistant captain on the Hornets’ 1999–2000 Bantam AA playoff championship team and later played Midget AA for SHAHA. In 2003, he was a PIHL All-Star and assistant captain for South Park High School. Away from the rink, Bob also served as a volunteer firefighter in South Park Township for nearly 20 years. Brandon and Bob are joined by Assistant Coaches Greg Sloan and Kurt Gaebel, along with Business Manager Lindsey O’Donnell. Together, the coaching staff is committed to helping Team Wargo’s players strengthen their hockey skills, learn the value of teamwork and create lasting memories on and off the ice.

We are a mixed BY team composed of 2015 and 2014 players. We have a small but mighty bench of 10 skaters and one goalie. We are looking forward to working hard as a team and putting our best effort forth at each game.

We’d love to introduce you to our 2016BY team!

Coach Ryan Bianco is currently serving as an assistant coach for the 10U Bittel team. This is his fifth year coaching with the Hornets organization and has coached at the mite through p*e wee levels. Additionally, Coach Ryan serves as the junior varsity assistant coach for the Mt. Lebanon High School hockey team. Ryan looks forward to another fun season and watching the team grow on and off the ice.

Coach Cindy Bittel currently serves as the head coach for the 2016BY Hornets and an assistant coach for the 8U Blue Hornets Bruckner. After a lifetime of playing the game—including college women’s hockey—she has spent the last seven years giving back to the sport behind the bench. "My ultimate goal is to influence young athletes to become driven, organized, confident, and motivated leaders both in hockey and in life. I am a fierce advocate for building a supportive, competitive team culture centered around teamwork, respect, positive attitude, and giving maximum effort every single time we hit the ice." “I’m most looking forward to how much our team can grow and support one another this season.”

Coach Jon Wadsworth is currently serving as an Assistant Coach for the 10U Bittel team and is in his second year coaching with the Hornets. He grew up playing AA hockey with the Hershey Jr. Bears before playing ACHA club hockey at the University of Pittsburgh. Jon looks forward to helping the team build trust, grow their hockey knowledge, and maintain a positive attitude each day—values that will help them both on the ice and beyond.

Coach Bryan currently serves as an assistant for 10U Bittel and 8U McLachlan. He played hockey for 15 years and this is his third year as a Hornet Coach. I always enjoy helping players grow on and off the ice in becoming better players and people. I am a big advocate of helping players strive for greatness by keeping a positive attitude, team focused, and giving 110% every time they hit the ice.

Coach Cliff, currently an assistant coach for 10u Bittel, started his hockey journey as a sq**rt Hornet and continues to play today. His primary focus for the team this year is skill development, hard work, and most importantly, having fun. I’m looking forward to coaching sq**rts because it gives you the unique chance to shape young players during a critical age where fundamental skills, teamwork, and a lifelong love for the game are built.
