September 19, 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the massive landslide at the former Dixmont State Hospital site. Close to 600,000 cubic yards of dirt and stone slid across Ohio River Boulevard and 3 tracks of the adjacent Norfolk Southern railway in Kilbuck Township. The pile stood about 30 feet high on Route 65. Traffic was halted for about two weeks.

There was a huge turnout this evening by the Dickson Log House and the Emsworth Locks and Dams to see the Union Pacific’s Big Boy Steam Engine. People were lined up along the tracks for as far as one could see! And the visitors to the log house were nonstop!

"Seventy-three boys and girls of Ben Avon have sworn to obey all traffic regulations while riding bicycles, and thus have been awarded membership cards in the Ben Avon Safe Riders' Club."

Come on down to Community Church today for the El Sabor food truck til 2pm, see rare artifacts from Vinegar Hollow* and buy some yard sale stuff!

*the butter churner is not an artifact, just holding down the display copy of The Chronicle!

But other items are old camping pan with .22 holes in it from target practice at the scout cabin in the 1940s!
