"In Kashmir, where food offered by locals to soldiers is often viewed with deep suspicion, this small gesture is fraught with tension. Karun hesitates, visibly uncertain. Onir captures this cultural mistrust perfectly until Faheem bites into the same apple, silently reassuring Karun of his intent. Itโ€™s an act that speaks louder than any dialogue: a delicate offering of trust, affection, and defiance in a place where even kindness can be dangerous.

"Their love story unfolds in shadows, far away from the noise of mainstream q***r cinema. Here, love is not spectacle, itโ€™s survival. Itโ€™s the right to feel, to yearn, to hope, in a space that denies all three."

". . . By centering q***r Kashmiri voices, embracing gender fluidity, and weaving a story through the everyday gestures of love and survival, We Are Faheem & Karun becomes more than a film. It becomes a quiet map for q***r existence in silenced places a testimony that says: We have always been here. And we have always loved."

"Filmmaker Onir is known to make films that push boundaries to normalise q***r love and acceptance. His new film, 'We Are Faheem & Karun' does exactly that, but without relying on the tropes and stereotypes of its premise . . . itโ€™s a beautifully refreshing film that will shatter all your preconceived notions about the premise." - .ent

Join us Monday Dec 8th at 7PM for a free screening of We Are Faheem & Karun by Onir The film will feature a live Q&A with the film's director, Onir, and cast members.

We Are Faheem & Karun follows an unlikely connection between two young men divided by duty and identity. Faheem (Mir Tawseef), a Kashmiri college student, meets Karun (Akash Menon), an Indian border guard, at a checkpoint on his journey home to the remote village of Gurez. What begins as a simple exchange โ€” an apple passed through a gate โ€” slowly becomes a quiet act of longing and recognition. Their attraction grows in a place defined by barriers: of religion, politics, and the unspoken rules that govern both menโ€™s lives.

Inspired by the real-life story of an Indian soldier, director Onir creates a restrained but deeply emotional portrait of forbidden love. Shot in Kashmir with local actors, the film captures the stark beauty of the region alongside its tension and isolation. We Are Faheem & Karun is both a love story and a human story โ€” about connection in a landscape where every boundary, personal or political, seems unbreakable.
