Steel City Squares

Before the new dance season kicks off in September, we wanted to create an opportunity for the Steel City Squares music and dance community to gather and enjoy live music, a potluck, and, of course, dancing.

On Sunday, August 23rd from 12 to 6pm we’ve reserved the Valley Refuge Shelter in Riverview Park. We’ll be grilling hot dogs (with veggie options available) and encourage everyone to bring a potluck dish to share.

Throughout the afternoon we’ll have a community old-time jam that will be open to any traditional acoustic instruments (fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, etc).

We’ll also have an old-time open mic with a signup sheet the day of for folks who’d like to share a tune or two, and of course there will be dancing and other family-friendly activities. Stay tuned for a more detailed schedule as the event approaches!

We are very excited to share this time with the community. As always, all are welcome. The event is free and we’ll accept donations to help offset the cost of the shelter rental. Can't wait to see yinz there!

Fall Pittsburgh square dance schedule with new October date! We're dancing one Saturday a month starting in September, all at Shiloh Center in Lawrenceville.

All dances are beginner- and family-friendly with a live band and caller. Open old-time jam beforehand, potluck and BYOB. We love community and sharing music and dance; join us!

We'll be participating in OpenStreetsPGH this Sunday, 6/28! Walk, run, bike, skate, or ride on down and visit us at 12th and Carson, in front of Club Cafe. We'll have live music and a caller to share tunes and beginner- and family-friendly dances for anyone to join! The weather looks great; come say hi! 😎

Come visit us at OpenStreets this Sunday, 10-2! We'll be at Carson and 12th, by Club Cafe. We'll be leading some beginner-friendly square dancing and have a live band throughout.

Festival alert! 🚨 Helvetia Hoot is one of our absolute favorite square dance & old-time festivals, held in the adorable Swiss+West Virginian town of Helvetia. It's a weekend-long event of music, dancing, workshops, jamming, camping, and communing (and really good eating!) in an idyllic setting. It's run by two incredible rockstars, Becky Hill and T-Claw, whom you may remember calling our dance over the years.

It's super affordable and only a few hours from Pittsburgh! It's a smaller festival so not overwhelming and good for kids! If you have any questions, comment below or DM us. Hope to see you there!
