We provide and 24/7, direct on-demand breastfeeding support for Black families in Allegheny County. CUB also offers a lactation education series.

Our Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) are available to help mothers when having breastfeeding challenges.

💜 Staff Spotlight: Hailey Sutton 💜

We are proud to recognize Hailey Sutton, Maternal Child Health Coordinator at Healthy Start Inc. Pittsburgh, for representing the Center for Urban Breastfeeding (CUB) at the 30th Annual Breastfeeding Friendly Place Awards Event on August 14 during World Breastfeeding Month.

This community event brought together organizations, businesses, and advocates from across Allegheny County to connect pregnant and postpartum families with valuable breastfeeding and pumping resources.

Through her outreach efforts, Hailey shared information about CUB's free breastfeeding education and support services, connected families to resources, and strengthened partnerships with fellow breastfeeding advocates throughout the region.

Our team recently visited Pittsburgh's Mid-Atlantic Mothers' Milk Bank, where donor human milk is processed and distributed to help medically vulnerable babies receive the benefits of human milk when needed.

As we celebrate Black Breastfeeding Week, we're reminded that "We All We Got" means connecting families to the resources, education, and support they need.

📣 Knowledge is power.

Black Breastfeeding Week is about more than awareness. It's about sharing resources, uplifting families, and ensuring Black parents have the support they need to thrive. ✨

In today's video, Alexandria Cutler, WIC Breastfeeding Counselor for Turtle Creek and Downtown, demonstrates the straddle hold, a breastfeeding position that can be helpful for babies with reflux, babies who need more head and neck support, or parents looking for a more upright feeding position.

When we share knowledge, we strengthen our village. And that's what this year's theme, "We All We Got," is all about. 💜

Did you know Healthy Start's LAtCH (Lactation Assessment and Counseling Home Support) Program provides on-demand breastfeeding support for Allegheny County moms 7 days a week from 6 AM to 6 PM at no cost? Call 412-545-2022, Option 1.

🖤 Fathers matter.

During Black Breastfeeding Week, we're recognizing the vital role fathers, partners, and father figures play in supporting breastfeeding families. From offering encouragement and helping at home to advocating for moms and babies, their support can make a meaningful difference in a family's breastfeeding journey.

This year's theme, "We All We Got," reminds us that breastfeeding is not just a mother's responsibility. It takes a village, and fathers are an important part of that village.

Together, we can build stronger support systems for healthier families.

✨ It takes a village.

This year's Black Breastfeeding Week theme, "We All We Got," reminds us that breastfeeding success is strengthened by support from family, friends, healthcare providers, and community advocates.

Today, London Reese-Scaife, McKeesport WIC Breastfeeding Counselor, is sharing a tutorial on the football hold, a breastfeeding position that can be especially helpful for parents recovering from a C-section, breastfeeding twins, or working on a comfortable latch.

Because when we share knowledge, resources, and support, we strengthen the village. 💜

No parent should have to navigate their breastfeeding journey alone.

🖤 Breastfeeding provides important health benefits for both babies and mothers, yet disparities persist. CDC data show that breastfeeding initiation rates among Black mothers remain lower than the national average.

This Black Breastfeeding Week, we're celebrating the power of community support because, "We All We Got." Together, we can help ensure Black families have the resources, education, and encouragement they deserve.
