The Junior Tamburitzans of Duquesne (JTD) were organized in 1961 and performed their premier concert in 1962. The group is comprised of 33 students from across the Pittsburgh region and takes pride in representing and preserving the many cultures of our Eastern European ancestors through music, song, dance, and costume. JTD has enjoyed many memorable performances possible across the United States and Canada. JTD is affiliated with the Junior Cultural Federation of the Croatian Fraternal Union (CFU), which provides the opportunity to perform at the annual CFU Festival—a highlight for the ensemble each season. We are thrilled to have been a part of and performed in the 2024 CFU Festival this Summer in Zagreb, Croatia. JTD extends our sincere appreciation to the students—past and present—who have donned a costume, danced a kolo, or played an instrument. We applaud the 70 former JTD members who have been awarded scholarships with the world-renowned Tamburitzans of Pittsburgh (formerly the Duquesne University Tamburitzans). The collective dedication of these individuals lays the foundation for future generations of Junior Tamburitzans. We are fortunate that our membership includes second-generation Junior Tammies, and we eagerly await the third generation.

We were so proud to show off our music director, Nick Vranesevic today as he directed JTD to sing our national anthem at today’s Pittsburgh Pirates game, celebrating Croatian National Heritage Day. Thank you to the Croatian Fraternal Union of America for this wonderful opportunity! Thank you to our family and friends who joined us, especially Javor Pittsburgh Tamburasi. We had so much fun!

Thank you to the Hungarian Folklife Association, we were honored to perform at the 50th Anniversary Pontozó Dance Festival. This was a beautiful celebration of Hungarian culture represented through dance by groups from the U.S. and Canada. Congratulations to our students on an outstanding performance, you represented JTD with pride!

Thank you to Kalman Magyar Jr. for leading the combo of talented musicians that played for each and every performance. It was a special touch that added an incredible energy and authenticity to the stage.

We look forward to participating in future Pontozó festivals! Thank you for a beautiful day and an enriching experience!
