Collaboration 🚨 Collaboration 🚨

Pittsburgh Soccer in the Community brought together The Boys and Girls Club of Western PA and The Riverhounds SC to form an amazing collaboration that will be a first for youth soccer in Western PA. The coming together of one of the country’s largest, most respected, non profit youth groups with Pittsburgh’s Professional Soccer Club.

Here’s how it works….

The Riverhounds have become the official soccer program for the Boys and Girls Club of Western PA. The B&G’s Club have 11 sites in and around the Pittsburgh area and work with over 7,000 kids at these sites. The goal is to have soccer programming provided by the Riverhounds pro academy coaches at all sites within the next 3-4 years. Year 1 programming has begun at their Lawrenceville site.

The aim being, if you are a kid who loves the game of soccer and are living around a local B&G’s Club you can now take part in programming run by the professionals. On top of that if the pro coaching staff identify a kid that shows a natural ability for the game, and wants to pursue their dreams, that boy or girl can be selected to join a full time Riverhounds Developmental Academy (RDA) team!

Now you ask ‘how would most inner city families afford the cost of a top level youth soccer program?’

Here’s the beauty of the collaboration. Between the three organizations, there will be yearly fundraising for a scholarship program for any kid identified to join the RDA. The Boys and Girls Club will use their scholarship system already in place for the family to apply for a discounted fee to join the RDA.

This collaboration has now opened the door for any kid that wants a pathway to the professional world of soccer in Western PA to genuinely have a shot!

Now if you’re a kid living near a Boys and Girls Club and just want to come out a few times a week to have a kick about with your mates in a safe environment, come on in also! The program is open to all abilities and will continue to teach the values of playing sports and the healthy lifestyle that brings with it.

What’s Pittsburgh Soccer in the Communities (PSC) roll in this collaboration?

PSC will be the driving force behind the scenes to develop and grow the programming and support system, working hand in hand with The Riverhounds and The Boys and Girls Club of Western PA. This will include items such as:

* Program development
* Program expansion
* Growing the coaching staff
* Fundraising (Local Businesses / Foundations / Corporations)
* Fundraising events and Gala’s
* Pro Player appearances
* Boys and Girls Club night at a Riverhounds pro game at Highmark Stadium
* Soccer events at Highmark Stadium for the soccer program participants
* Community involvement from current RDA youth players
