Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh

Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, Inc. is a nonprofit, member supported organization that promotes fiber art and fosters its development and continuation.

The Fiberarts Guild produces juried exhibitions of member’s work so that established and emerging artists may exhibit side by side. Fiberart International is the only on-going triennial open to textile artists everywhere in the world. Producing this prestigious exhibition, extends the Guild’s outreach beyond our region to a growing national and international audience.

Going Beyond the Basket: Structures, Techniques & Fiber Connections with Traycee Bosle
Traycee Bosle is a Pittsburgh, PA-based basketry fiber artist, marketer, and entrepreneur. Working primarily in reed, her practice explores the intersection of art and craft, exhibition and commerce. Through her studio, Craftisinal Creative Works, she has sold more than 2,000 handwoven baskets, exhibition pieces, ornaments, and kits throughout the United States. She also teaches and demonstrates basketry in her community on YouTube. For Traycee, basket weaving connects generations, carrying the stories and traditions of our ancestors. Through her work and teaching, she seeks to carry that connection forward, honoring the past while bringing basketry into the future and sharing its possibilities with the world.

FGP Table at CLP Quilt Documentation Day

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Main Branch

At Carnegie Library’s Quilt Documentation Day, local guilds will be having information tables. Our table will showcase a variety of artwork by our members.

Stop by to meet members of other area guilds and to document your family quilts. The event is free and open to the public.

Virtual Event: Beaded & Stitched Mandala Workshop with Julie Booth
Nov 7, 10am-1pm on Zoom, $55 fee

Workshop limited to 20 participants. Registration deadline: October 25, 2026

Participants will create a small “meditative” mandala from beads, sequins, ribbons, cheesecloth
and tulle. Julie will show students how to build a layered collage, apply beads and sequins,
attach a shell or sea glass with a thread net, ruch ribbons and couch yarns. She will also
demonstrate how to add a backing and stitched edging to the finished piece. Julie enjoys giving
these beautiful beaded and stitched mandalas as gifts for healing or protection.

$55 workshop fee includes a required kit containing the following materials:

(1) 5” square cotton fabric
(1) 5” square wool blend felt for a stabilizer
(1) 7” square cotton backing fabric
Tulle to cover your fabric base
Small assortment of painted cheesecloth scraps
(1) shell or piece of sea glass
Assortment of size 6 and 8 seed beads and sequins
Small assortment of larger focal or unusual beads
Small assortment of ribbon and yarn
(2) balls of pearl cotton thread (size 8) to complement your kit colors
Needle pack (includes (2) crewel embroidery ( #3, #5), (1) sharp ( #5), (2) chenille ( # 24, #22)
Julie will be creating kits in an assortment of colors. When ordering your kit, please provide two
color options that you’d be willing to work with.

Students should bring the following items to class:

Fabric scissors
Embroidery (small, sharp) scissors
Pins (glass head ones are fine)
Bottle cap: 2.5”-3” diameter. You’ll trace this to create your mandala circle.
Permanent marker (fine point) for tracing around the bottle cap.
Optional: 6”-12” Ruler (I prefer a clear gridded one, but any type will do)
Optional: Threads in additional colors (I suggest pearl cotton in sizes 8 or 12)
Optional: Task light

Virtual Event: Programs Committee: Call for Volunteers
October 20 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The Programs Committee is seeking volunteers to help us plan for 2027. Join us to learn more about some of the opportunities to get involved, including:

Speaker engagements for Fiber Sunday events — we’ve got a great directory of members who have generously contributed their time, and we also have access to a broader network of celebrated artists all over the country! Fiber Sunday events happen on a monthly basis, so we’re looking to queue up and get folks slotted in as early as possible.

Workshops — these a great way to bring FGP members together, whether in-person or virtually. We’re looking to host 2 or more workshops in 2027 and we’ve love some ideas and support to make this happen.

Field trips — they come in a variety of experiences, whether we’re traveling to a festival, checking out a new exhibition, or touring a fiber mill. We’re looking to organize 2 or more field trips in 2027 and we’d love some suggestions on how to craft these meaningful experiences for our members.
