It’s party time! Join us this Wednesday to celebrate 5 YEARS since we originally opened the doors to our cat lounge in Edgewood 🎉😸🎊

This celebration, and the next few months in 2026, mark a critical point in Rescue and Relax’s history and potential future. Sadly, the lease at our current space is ending on December 31st and we have not found a new location yet that will allow us to continue the vital work we do in our community. We need your support to fundraise and network so we can begin our next chapter.

This event is open to everyone! We will be partying from 6-9pm, and there will be plenty of snacks and drinks for donation, and so many cats to cuddle🍹🐱

Thanks to the generosity of GBU Life and an anonymous donor, every donation during the month of September will be matched up to $5,000! 💸🙌

Join us at our cat lounge at 104-106 E Swissvale Ave from 6-9pm. We look forward to seeing you there! 🥳🪩

And if you’d like to donate to take advantage of the matching funds in advance of the celebration, you can find us on Venmo, PayPal, Cashapp, or Ko-fi:
Or via Zelle at [email protected]

And you can always send or drop off cash or checks to:

Ready for some silly cat drama? 😸

Our gray boy Ares enjoys people but will sometimes start stuff with the other cats for no reason. And Thresher is our black cat who was here before him and is thoroughly annoyed with his nonsense!

This afternoon, Ares was running to start beef with another cat, but Thresher interrupted the pursuit path and made him stand down! He was bewildered lol. And then for some reason they remained on the same chair — with Thresher staring daggers and Ares angry and ashamed, looking anywhere but her. . . 🫥

One of our volunteers got a picture that really captured the vibe of it all 😹

They continue to work on their conflict resolution (which improves day by day with close supervision!), and were willingly redirected for more appropriate individual play time afterwards 🙌

Thresher is bewildered that someone’s made a board game of her favorite pastime: cat crimes! Come on out and play cat crimes or any of our other cat themed board games at our bimonthly game night this Tuesday, July 28th! 🧩😹

All proceeds help us continue to care for these cats, as well as cover over $6000 in emergency medical vet bills we recently accrued for some sick kitties this summer. 🥺❤️‍🩹

You can get tickets on our website at rescueandrelax.com/events — or just walk in and pay the night of! 💻🎟️

It’s been 2 weeks of emergencies here at Rescue and Relax. We’ve had 3 cats at Blue Pearl Pet Hospital and it’s cost $6000 & counting 😿

We’ve gone several months without sending a cat to the ER… but when it rains, it pours ⛈️☔🥺 Our cat rescue desperately needs help to cover these back-to-back emergency bills. Every little bit helps!

Lady Gaga is a 2yo brown tabby that was raced to BluePearl 11 days ago with really concerning neuro symptoms. She fell off the bed & wobbled to her litter box to vomit. She was bobbing her head, walking unsteadily, & twitching her eyes rapidly & we feared she had a seizure. It turned out her symptoms were vestibular, resulting from a bad ear infection that messed with her sense of balance & made her feel like she was on a rollercoaster. She went home with antibiotics, fluids, & anti-nausea meds and felt better within 48 hours! She has a follow-up at PetVet365 to make sure the infection cleared 💛🍍🐱

Dionysus is a 1yo fluffy tux who got into lilies at his foster home. They weren’t sure he consumed any, but found pollen on his fur. Lilies are so toxic to cats that we couldn’t take any chances. Since it was Memorial Day, ER was our only option to induce vomiting & check his kidney function. He visited PetVet365 the next day & confirmed his kidney values remained normal. He’s been doing great since this health scare 🖤🤍

Eliza is a 13yo diabetic, grey kitty and she’s been hospitalized at BluePearl since Friday. She stopped eating Thursday night & started vomiting Friday, so South Side Flats Animal Hospital squeezed her in. They were worried about her glucose & ketone levels and advised going to ER. The vet at BluePearl suspected more was going on than diabetes and discovered she has hyperthyroidism. She was hospitalized overnight and ate a little, but her appetite & glucose levels weren’t responding as expected. She stayed another night for continued monitoring & care to make sure her levels normalize & appetite improves ❤️‍🩹🤞

If you notice that we might not have snacks out during your visit, it’s because of this guy 🤪😼 Banana unfortunately likes to test the durability of all the snack packaging so if he’s being particularly destructive we’ve had to put the snacks away.

In good news: Banana is being adopted into a wonderful family along with his brother Kiwi! And snack availability should return soon! 🍌🥝🙌

This Mother’s Day we’re shining a light on some of our wonderful mama cats who are still waiting for their purrfect forever homes 💖🥰

First we’ve got Madame Curie and her daughter Pipette! This duo was a part of a bigger science crew, and mama Curie’s other kids Petri, Bunsen, and Beaker have all been adopted. Pipette has become a mama’s girl through and through, and she and Madame Curie are now a package deal 🥰🧪🧬

Our second dynamic duo is Chickadee and Dove! You may remember our crew of almost 30 bird kitties, and Chickadee and Dove are our final two waiting on their forever home. Chickadee has been a great mom to her other three kittens, but she and Dove have developed a special bond. 🥹🕊️ They’re both slightly less outgoing kitties, but have a lot of love to give when they’re feeling up for it!

And our final pair is Mildred and Agnes, the moms of the two litters of kittens that were found at Kennywood! 🎢💕 These two mamas were excellent caretakers to their kittens, all of whom have since been adopted. The moms started off as semi-feral, but through time, space, and the dedicated work of our volunteers, have learned to love the cozy comforts of being indoors and getting pets and human attention! Mildred and Agnes bonded through their time at the lounge, and are now best buds — cuddling, playing, and sleeping together! 🥹🥰

Come visit the lounge or reach out to us via email if you’re interested in learning more about any of these dynamic duos! 👯‍♀️💗

(Madame Curie and Pipette are in foster care, but we’re happy to arrange meetings for potential adopters.)
