Breastfeeding is easier if you answer their requests instead of waiting for their demands.

Feeding Cues

Early:
* Eyelids fluttering while sleeping
* Hands to face
* Mouth movements

Mid:
* Rooting
* Whimpering

Late:
* Tense mouth & body
* Fast breathing
* Crying

**Calm baby before latching after late cues. Remember, you are not a bad parent for missing your baby's early and mid feeding cues. You are doing the best you can.

Is my baby getting enough milk? This is a common question I get asked as a La Leche League Leader.

A baby's hands often time will let you know how hungry they are. At the beginning of the feed many babies start with a closed, tense fist. As they eat their hands open up and relax.

Next time you nurse your child watch their hand to see what they do.
