Today marks the 5th Anniversary of my heart transplant. I want to first thank my wife Jackie for being such a rock through this entire process. I would not have made it without her. The support of my family and friends and community has been outstanding. I want to thank all of you for that, I’m back to work, and I’m thriving. If you still have your heart plaques, it would be great to see those hanging on the doors again!

Hello Friends of the Beat Goes On! We hope this post finds you doing well! Just in time for the holidays our favorite heart transplant recipient, Mark Crowley is ready to fill your home with beautiful holiday decor! Below is an update from Mark and some of his 2021 designs. Of course, if you have an idea just let us know and Mark may be able to create it for you. Plaques are $25.
A message from Mark:
"I am 8 months post-transplant and things have gone well. A few bumps along the way, an infection of the sternum, which kept me in the hospital for a bit and on antibiotics until the end of the year. I also developed skin cancer because of the anti-rejection medication. A simple change in medication and that seems to be clearing up. I feel good, I’m going to cardiac rehab 3 times a week. I’m not quarantined to the house, but I must be very careful about where I go, not just because of COVID, but the possibility of getting something because of my suppressed immune system. I’ve been social distancing my whole life, so that’s not a bother 😁, and when you wear a mask, you don’t have to really care what you look like, because no one knows who you are! I appreciate all of the well wishes and incredible support from so many people and will keep you posted as I continue to recover. Happy holidays to all!!" The Beat Goes On’s Inaugural Golf Outing is in the books! Thank you to all of the golfers who came out and braved the heat to make the day a great success!

Mark’s Journey to a New Heart

Our friend, Mark Crowley, is currently on the heart transplant list at UPMC. Mark was born and raised in Pittsburgh and has been a resident of Mt. Lebanon since 1994 where he and his wife, Jackie, raised 2 children. Mark was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy (weakening of the heart muscle) in 1995 and was able to manage the disease with medications. However, his heart deteriorated and he is now waiting for the transplant. It may be a year or longer before Mark gets a new heart. Due to this Mark is no longer able to work and expenses related to pre and post-transplant are expensive. We are dedicated to helping Mark and Jackie during this journey to a new heart and plan to have several fundraisers during this year.

Our first fundraiser just happens to coincide with February -- Heart Month! Mark has made One-of-a-Kind, Shabby Chic Heart door hangers! We would love to see every door in Mt. Lebanon adorned with one of these hearts to show support of Mark and all heart patients. We are asking for a donation of $25 per heart. Payable via PayPal, Venmo, check or cash…just let us know where to deliver your heart. Thank you so much for your support!
