Did you see us at any of our May events? Last month we had our Solar Punk Future event alongside GA/GI, ReImagine Jobs, The Climate Reality Project, League of Women Voters, and many more inspiring orgs in the Pittsburgh region!

It took place at the Hill District’s Energy Innovation Center and had around 400 attendees. Part interactive art show, part green jobs fair, it brought together artists envisioning green tomorrows alongside the inventors, scientists, and employers who could help make them happen.

Solar Punk was coined to suggest an alternative to the dystopian future ruled by malevolent robots and warped by ecological devastation, but one where humans have resourcefully harnessed green technologies to live in harmony with nature. It depicts not wasted landscapes and marauding hordes but clear skies, abundant fields and orchards, solar arrays and rooftop gardens and was the inspiration behind this event. 🌞

We helped distribute organic compost and soil to 5 new homes and 10 new garden beds in the Turtle Creek Watershed fueled by BBQ pulled jackfruit sandwiches with zesty coleslaw made by our incredible volunteers Rhea & Josh!

Does anyone in the Westmoreland or Allegheny County area have any extra soil laying around we could use for winter sowing? It's for volunteers for a Native Urban Garden Stewardship program to get a start on some native plants for our pilot program where we provide free native pollinator gardens to members in underserved communities. These are the kinds of soil we are looking for! We need about 3 cu ft in total.
-Master Nursery Bumper Crop
-Promix potting soil
-Happy Frog potting soil
-Strawberry Fields
