Valentines Day is over but we’re still trying to save our space! GoFundMe’s up til 2/22 🖤💛

It feels good to support restaurant workers, Meg Ryan gets it. We love her in 90s rom-coms but we don’t love how cute she made excessive order modifications as Sally Albright.

Cheers to the “I’ll have what she’s having” lady, order like her plz 🥂

and give what’s she’s giving, which is $215 💌

Happy Birthday Peter Gabriel, who wrote the banger behind this iconic scene ❤️

In his honor, we’ve created some birthday-themed giving tiers:

$73- Peter Gabriel level supporter, stay weird 👽 and be entered to win one of our board members standing outside somewhere, with a boombox,
playing a song of your choice

$46- 1-2-3-4 show us that you love us more at the Feist tier

$32- our board member, Jess, is 32 today. She’s trying to get 32 people to donate $32.

$100- give an even 💯, like John Cusack in this photo, to honor what would have been the 100th bday of Chuck Yeager, first human to break the sound barrier 💥

Valentine’s Day is busy for us restaurant folk but we took some time out to ask for a little help 🫶

To hang on to our space on Liberty Ave, we need to raise $10k by 2/22/23!

Can you show restaurant workers a little love this Valentine's Day by supporting PRWA?

Pittsburgh Restaurant Workers Aid (PRWA) has made the difficult decision to end our care package program. Our final day of care package deliveries will be Saturday, February 4.

In March of 2020, when restaurants first faced COVID-19 restrictions, we recognized an immediate crisis. In less than 72 hours, our group created a delivery system to provide grocery items, diapers, pet food, cleaning supplies, and other donated products to impacted workers across Allegheny County and even parts of southwestern PA. In this nearly 3-year period, PRWA’s board members and staff, along with an incredible number of service industry volunteers, donors, and allies, have provided weekly support for restaurant workers and their families. Beyond simply providing material basics and some relief from financial pressure, this effort and the workers that have sustained it made one thing very clear: when our bosses and our government won’t have our backs, Pittsburgh’s restaurant workers fight for one another.

Even since the start of the pandemic, we have been clear that COVID-19 did not cause the problems of our industry - it exacerbated inequalities and harm that have long existed. Given that reality, PRWA has decided to take a step back from the care package program to consider new strategies that will allow us to devote our limited time and resources to addressing the root causes of restaurant workers' continued financial and social insecurity. True systemic change is necessary, and we must adapt to meet the scale of the problem.

For now, we simply thank you for laboring alongside us these past 3 years – for your volunteer hours, donations, and overall support. Let’s keep fighting together!

Wage theft is more common than you may think and occurs often in the restaurant industry. Wage theft accounts for an estimated $40-60 BILLION dollars a year of lost wages for workers nationally, and is often experienced by restaurant workers in the forms of: illegal tip pool structures, misuse of the tip credit, unpaid overtime, unpaid hours (including but not limited to the practice of staging), owners and managers skimming off tips.

In the past few years workers from several Pittsburgh area restaurants and retailers have spoken up and reported instances of wage theft at their jobs and as a result have been paid back the money that was stolen from them.

Have you had tips or wages stolen from you in the past 2 years? Do you think you may have but are unsure?
The Pitt/Duquesne Law Wage Theft Project is providing FREE legal consultations to workers who have experienced wage theft within the past 2 years. See the QR code on the flyer below for more info.
