“Support Vulnerable People, Educate Children their Culture, and Preserve Art, Culture and History”

Mission:
Ensure the acclimation, health, and long-term well-being of the Bhutanese immigrant community in Southwestern Pennsylvania by addressing the urgent needs of its most vulnerable members, facilitating the social and educational success of its youth, and forever pre

serving its rich Himalayan history and culture. Vision:
A healthy and supportive community where all individuals, regardless of age, physical condition, or family circumstances are living productive, dignified, and meaningful lives--thriving in their adopted country while respecting their cultural heritage. A Himalayan history and cultural museum established in Southwestern Pennsylvania to forever preserve the Art, Culture and History of these people. Who we are:
The Himalayan Foundation-USA is a Pittsburgh-based, 501c-3, non-profit organization founded in 2016 to provide quality-of-life enhancing services to the most vulnerable segments of the Bhutanese immigrant community in Southwest Pennsylvania. The Himalayan Foundation-USA defines the vulnerable population as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, individuals without immediate family support, and children as they acclimate to their new environment educationally and socially. We also exist to ensure the preservation of Himalayan history and culture. As our youth acclimate to their new society, language and traditions and culture are rapidly being lost. Communication breakdown is also occurring within family units and the elders can no longer communicate with their English-speaking grandchildren. We as an organization strive to keep this culture alive by providing Nepali dance, language, art and music classes to the children, adult dance classes and an annual Cultural Program. Long-term goals are to have our own physical space (Himalayan Cultural Center) where we can offer all activities and programming, senior “daycare” and a museum to preserve our history, stories, artifacts and culture forever. And as we grow as an organization, our hope is to expand our services throughout Pennsylvania and the tri-state area and to other populations in need. We are a 100% volunteer organization working tirelessly to achieve these goals.

Senior Support.
Hiking and Dry Potluck at South Park.

“On May 31, 2026, the Himalayan Foundation USA successfully organized a joyful hiking day at South Park, bringing together participants from three generations—elderly, adults, and young children. The event was filled with energy, teamwork, and community spirit, as everyone contributed in meaningful ways, from volunteering and preparing potluck meals to fetching water, guiding trails, and ensuring everyone’s safety. It was inspiring to see such collective effort and care, which made the day both smooth and memorable. We hope everyone truly enjoyed this beautiful day of nature, connection, and shared experience.
