The A.M.E.N. program was truly instrumental in my life. Being surrounded by other men facing the same challenges I had as a single father gave me a sense of brotherhood I didn’t even realize I was missing. We had real conversations about relationships, life skills, job opportunities, and personal growth. The speakers who poured into us brought knowledge, wisdom, and encouragement that stayed with me long after each session ended.

What made A.M.E.N. different was that it wasn’t just talk. We built a true community. We spent time together, supported one another, and created bonds that extended beyond the program. And when it came time for the family gatherings, I stepped up as the chef—a moment that reflected something bigger that was growing inside of me.

A.M.E.N. gave me the confidence and push I needed to pursue my purpose. That experience planted the seed that led me to open my own restaurant, ZBest Barbeque Chicken & Ribs. What started as an idea in that room became a reality that now serves the community.

Jonathan T. Backers played a major role in that transformation. He led with both compassion and strength—kind and patient, yet firm and unwavering in his message. He taught with conviction, pride in our heritage, and a strong pro-Black foundation that reminded us of who we are and where we come from.

Seeing A.M.E.N. return today is powerful. It is a blessing to witness its revival and to know that the same program that helped shape my life is continuing to impact and transform others.

John Green, who is a former A.M.E.N. participant, attended the weekly Fathers and Men's support group meetings. What he found was far more than a program — he found transformation. Over time, he became involved in the Male Mentoring Program, Fatherhood initiatives, group sessions, and leadership development experiences. A.M.E.N. became a foundation in his life.

Reflecting on his journey, John shares:

“It taught me how to recognize who I really am. It made me look at myself — my limitations, my vulnerabilities, and my strengths. I learned how to grow based on who I am as a man.” Today, John is the current owner of his own company, Kingdom Transportation.

Through Jonathan Backers’ mentorship, John says he gained more than inspiration — he gained tools.

The Alliance of Male Empowerment Networks (A.M.E.N.) is a faith-driven nonprofit organization on a transformative mission: Save a Man, Save a Family. A.M.E.N. brings together men, women, and organizations who are committed to strategically aligning their collective resources to deliver comprehensive health and human services. Through this collaborative approach, the organization empowers individuals to courageously confront life’s challenges, take responsibility for past choices, and embrace a path of meaningful change and recovery.

At the heart of A.M.E.N.’s work is The Spirit of RE, an innovative and spiritually infused process designed to guide men and women on a journey of personal and spiritual transformation. The Spirit of RE equips participants with the knowledge, wisdom, and insight necessary to understand themselves, recognize their God-given potential, and access the internal and external resources available to support lasting change. This Christ-centered approach emphasizes Righteous Character Development, intentionally crafted to REstore, REnew, and REgenerate the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—creating a foundation for purposeful living and life-long success.

A.M.E.N.’s programs reach beyond the individual to strengthen families and communities. By focusing on empowerment, education, mentorship, and holistic support, the organization creates a ripple effect of positive change that uplifts entire neighborhoods. Whether through workshops, counseling, training programs, or community initiatives, A.M.E.N. stands as a beacon of hope and transformation, demonstrating that when a man is restored, the entire family—and community—benefits.
