I just couldn’t be more delighted to announce that Open Door Project will be partnering with the Pine Grove Community Garden once more to bring you another wonderful summer of Garden Club!

Garden Club will be held on Tuesdays. We will be offering both a morning and afternoon club.
Stay tuned for registration information!

This is just an absolutely amazing opportunity for the youth in our community to learn about gardening, allowing them to disconnect from technology and connect to the earth and peers. We are incredibly lucky that our Pine Grove native, Mackenzie Lesh Soltys, followed her dream to create this garden and is passionate about teaching kids how to grow food and tend to the earth in this way!

We look forward to Garden Club! It’s always a bustling good time! 🌱 💦 ☀️

“I SHINE like a diamond- beautiful, worthy, brilliant, precious, and rare.”

Today was our last MS Shine for the year! We celebrated with special punch, cookies, and sharing memories.

This year we decided to have a Diamond Ceremony and each girl received a “diamond” as she said, “I shine bright like a diamond.” They also got a little star squishy to remind them to always shine bright.

For our eight graders, we had a little special gift. Most of them have been in Shine since 2nd grade! One of our first lessons they learned was the lesson of the pearl. Every pearl is different and unique and so are they. So, each girl received a little pearl bracelet to remind them of them of all the lessons they’ve learned in Shine. ❤️

Thank you for having your girls join us these past few months. It’s truly been our pleasure to have them and instill their self-love and confidence in them. Keep shining bright girls, we will always be here for you! ✨💕

On Tuesday our Elementary Shine program wrapped up our spring semester with a movie and a pizza party! 🍕 🎥 🍿

Each Shine student received a copy of our book “Dear Girl” that we read from each week. They also were gifted their special blankets and bunny friend that they used in their self soothing practices. 🐰🤍 📖

It was such a pleasure to spend time with these beautiful young ladies, and we look forward to having them back again for more Shine fun in the future! ✨🤍

We appreciate Schuylkill Area Community Foundation helping us to make this program available free of charge to our community!

Tonight was a wonderful wrap up for Community Kids Connected.
They painted wooden horses and then glued “wings” onto the horses because the horse character in the book we’ve been reading “The boy, the mole, the fox, and the horse,” has a special hidden skill of flying.
It’s a very inspirational part of the story and we wanted the students to connect with that.

The students also watched the animated movie version of the book and had popcorn. Always a great time with popcorn and a movie!

Each student was gifted a copy of the book and were able to take all of their felt characters home that they made each week.

What a wonderful evening!

(Parents, please stay tuned for an email inviting all of the students back for a special terrarium workshop with Miss Ann. 🌲 🦊 )

We want to thank our partners Schuylkill Area Community Foundation for helping Open Door Project offer our programs free of charge to the students in our community.

Dear Me,
Always be yourself.
Love,
Me. 🤍

The girls were delighted to be back at their happy place with their Shine friends. ✨ Their lesson was about being themselves, and they learned how to do diamond painting. 🐝🤍✨

It’s good to bee yourself. We all need that reminder at times.

We thank Schuylkill Area Community Foundation for being a sponsor of our Shine program. 🤍

For the last several weeks, the students involved in the programs at Open Door Project have been learning about big emotions, and how to accept them. They have been learning about self soothing in difficult times. They have been learning that it’s strong to ask for help, and to remember that none of us are in this alone.

As life has unfolded, currently I, and my daughter, and entire family, have been required to put all of those lessons into practice in real time. We’ve been reminding ourselves that
Sad is ok.
Happy is ok.
Fear is ok.
Anger is ok.
We have been wrapping up in my old quilt that the students practiced with, while we wait at the hospital to find out what treatment is best for Cassie.

As much as we would absolutely love to see all our students this week, I have decided to keep our programs paused until after Spring/Easter break so I can be present at the hospital during this time of making intense medical decisions.

We plan to have some very special and meaningful wrap up sessions with all the students following Easter break.

In life, no one thing is ever completely separate from any thing else. It is all woven together in this beautiful and complex way. And often the wisest thing we can do is accept that.

Thank you so much for your understanding in this tumultuous time.
All our love to our students, and we look forward to wrapping up after Easter! 🐣🤍

“Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else.” -Judy Garland

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you someone else is the greatest accomplishment.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today’s lesson was “I am UNIQUE.” This is a hard one because it’s hard to embrace what makes special instead of blending in with their peers. There is a constant pressure to be like everyone else. They were challenged to open up about themselves to someone new today by playing a board game that highlighted all the things that make them unique.

Keep shining girls! You are all unique and we appreciate and love that about you. Next month, will be our last MS Shine for the year. We look forward to celebrating with the girls!

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take another week off from Shine and Community Connected to support Cassie ( Cassie’s Story) while she’s undergoing continued testing at the hospital.

We sincerely hope to resume programs the week of March 23rd.

Due to a medical situation, Open Door Project will closed for this week. Thank you for your understanding. 🤍
