I am introducing a new concept in fundraising called ‘Collective Funding’. It works like this: Everyone sends ONE DOLLAR one time. That’s it. Visit NICER’s web site and donate there. There is a ‘DONATE’ button on the bottom of the home page.

NICER really needs help; there is now $12.83 in the bank. I have taken over making all of the recurring operating costs out of my own pocket and I can only do that for so long. PLEASE help.

(You can give more than a buck if you’d like.)

Thanks!

Do you live in the State of Maryland? If so, the Maryland Rare Diseases Advisory Council is conducting a needs survey, and they'd like to hear from you. No personal information is collected. Here is the link:

The Maryland Rare Disease Advisory Council (MRDAC) has created this survey to learn more about the needs of individuals, families and loved ones affected by rare diseases in the State of Maryland. In the United States of America, a rare disease is defined as one that affects fewer than 1 in 200,000....

Dear friends: I don’t often get to say this anymore, but NICER recently had an opportunity to fulfill our original mission: we made a grant! It wasn’t a large one, but to the recipient it was very big. Very helpful. I have to say, I was very pleased to be able to do that.

Over time, as our ability to make grants has waned and NICER’s mission has shifted, our bank balance has grown steadily smaller. With this recent grant, we have reached a crisis point. There is literally only a couple of hundred dollars in the bank. NICER does have ongoing expenses, so things are getting squeaky.

If you believe in NICER and you believe in me (because after all, I _AM_ the NICER Foundation), please consider making a donation. You’ll be supporting Narcoleptics In Crisis Emergency Relief efforts, and you’ll be supporting my own efforts at helping the medical institution understand us. I don’t take a salary or pay of any kind from NICER; all the money is used for program expenses (grants) and administrative expenses. Donations to NICER are 100% tax-deductible.

Please make a donation through PayPal or by check. Unfortunately, no other payment method is available at this time because I don’t know how to set it up and we can’t afford any programming help. Please consider setting up a monthly payment of as little as $2.00. You’ll never miss it, and iIt adds up! (Of course, larger amounts add up faster).

You can mail payments to the NICER Foundation, 4002 Brookhill Road, Baltimore, MD 21215.

Thanks!

As I have mentioned previously, over time my attention has turned to writing articles designed to help PWN in their interactions with their clinicians as well as separately, to educate clinicians about our specific needs. I am reminded over and over that many PWN are not aware of these articles and therefore are unable to make use of them. So, for the sake of making sure that anyone who needs to see them or print them out to show their clinicians, here are links to the two articles published so far. I hope you will find them useful.

Hello everyone. Moshe here. I would like to bring you up to date on a couple of things.

First, if you haven't looked at the NICER website in a while (maybe a LONG while) I encourage you to do that. On the landing page I explain what my current focus is at NICER. That is important for you to understand.

Second, I haven't mentioned the following to many folks up to now but I think it is time.

Maybe as long as a year or more ago I was invited to be on the board of directors at PWN4PWN, and I accepted that invitation. I am the Director of Special Projects there.

That doesn't mean that i no longer am running NICER, although again, you should read what it says there. PWN4PWN has more people and more resources than NICER ever had. They DO more. Being on the board there gives me better access to people and, of course, resources. NICER never had a whole lot of money, but its whole purpose is to give away what it gets. Which I have done. So, I wasn't able to do things like go to conferences and the like.

I will (probably, hopefully) be talking about my involvement at PWN4PWN further down the road.

Meanwhile, here is some news. I am scheduled to be at the AASM meeting in Seattle in June. If any of you will be there too, please look for me at the PWN4PWN booth, or table, or whatever it is.

But remember, NICER lives!

Copay assistance for PWN

I saw this in my feed today so I thought I'd pass it on. You might want to pass it on in the various groups you are in.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA / ACCESSWIRE / January 9, 2025 / The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance organization that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today announced the launch of a new copay assistance program for people living with narcolepsy.
